Belmont – Race 8

#2 CROWDING OUT (7/2 ml)

Grassy firster for Chad Brown worked 4 times back in February/March  with SMITH’S POINT, who ran a very odd (but still impressive) third yesterday in our Churchill race. SMITH’S POINT broke outward (from the outer stall) to be off slowly, but really showed no speed at all, trailing by some 20 lengths before suddenly kicking into gear and making a huge run to finish third. Very difficult to apply that here (not sure what to expect from CROWDING OUT from a pace/speed standpoint), but it seems generally positive, and what most caught my eye is that I found video of their first drill together where CROWDING OUT seemed clearly best between the two. The only other video on XBTV was from way back last year at Saratoga (vs. a nondescript workmate) where CROWDING OUT also looked very sharp. Most of her subsequent work came with the unraced BLEECKER STREET (tab that one if CROWDED OUT wins today), but she most recently worked with AMORTIZATION (and perhaps once before also), who won at Aqueduct on Dec 12. Suspect this one can run a little.

Regarding her competition, the main threat may come from the Clement trainee QUICK CONVERSATION (6/1 ml), who came out of her second-place finish at Tampa to work with BYE BYE, who was last seen posting a sharp turf-sprint win @ Gulfstream on March 21.
