Nick Tammaro’s Sunset Six – 02/13/26

SUNSET SIX – 2/13/2026

LEG A, RACE 8 – GULFSTREAM PARK
SELECTIONS: 7-2-8-5

There’s no tiring of #7 BABY BLOCKS, who seems to find her way into the mix every time, even if she doesn’t win often enough.  The move to turf likely bridges the gap between she and #4 HEIR TO THE ROAR, who has gotten the better of her numerous times on the Tapeta.  There’s speed to the outside of ‘Baby and she is at her best with a target.  The price should be fair, but this feels like a race where you’re supposed to cast a wide net and just try to survive.

LEG B, RACE 9 – GULFSTREAM PARK
SELECTIONS: 7-1-4-5

The barn switch on #7 SUGAR FISH is too strong to overlook.  She has been knocking heads with top notch competition in California and she fits nicely in this spot.  Trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. is 38% with dirt routers off trainer switches over the last five years, good for a $3.70 ROI.  The pace should heat up nicely for a late runner and this gal stands to benefit most.  Given the first leg requires extra coverage, this feels like a great opportunity for a single.

LEG C, RACE 10 – GULFSTREAM PARK
SELECTIONS: 1-5-7-9

There are two runners in here dropping in class, and #1 SHOTGUN is the more appealing of the two.  He’ll be a longer price than #5 AUTHENTIC LEGEND while both move back into the maiden claiming ranks.  Shotgun was badly pace compromised last time out in a race totally dominated on the front end, and now draws beautifully to save ground and make one run from off what should be a solid pace.  ‘Legend has done well against better as well and fits nicely here for a barn that routinely contends for the top of the trainer standings at this meet.

LEG D, RACE 6 – SANTA ANITA PARK
SELECTIONS: 3-1-6-4

The pace should be solid in this event, and that just might make the difference for #3 MIDNIGHT STRIKE.  He hasn’t been seen since last summer but ran well against tougher MSW fields and now looks to be a solid off the pace threat.  There’ll be no choice for Armando Ayuso other than to take back and make one run.  #1 LATITUDE is a pace player on the stretchout and move to turf.  The dam was a grass winner, so there’s real pedigree power in play here for a horse that’ll get plenty of support at the windows.

LEG E, RACE 7 – SANTA ANITA PARK
SELECTIONS: 8-7-5 1

The class drop on #8 ARTISMA is the most significant factor at play here as this daughter of Munnings drops out of the La Brea for Richard Baltas.  She was no match for that bunch, but you can excuse it given the Grade I competition.  This is a far more reasonable spot, and she drew well outside as one of the main pace players.  Even with the blinkers coming off, there’s reason to believe she’ll be forwardly placed.  #7 MAWU is back off a long layoff for Bob Baffert, a move this barn makes with great success.  She was a precocious 2YO before things went wrong in 2025, but she now gets Lasix for the return and should get a forwardly placed trip as well.

LEG F, RACE 8– SANTA ANITA PARK
SELECTIONS: 8-4-2-1

There’s no denying that #8 JOHN METCALFE is the one to beat here for Craig Lewis and Juan Hernandez.  His lone prior turf try was quite good, as he wound up 2nd after contesting the pace behind a repeat winner.  He should be in the mix early once again here dropping out of a series of stakes races and is a deserving heavy favorite.  #4 ROBIN OLDS is a firster with a strong dam side pedigree for the turf.  The dam was the decorated turfer Enola Gray and she has produced 2 turf winners from 3 to try it.  This one provides some insurance should ‘Metcalfe falter.

Main Ticket: 2,4,5,7,8 with 7 with 1,5 with 1,3 with 7,8 with 4,8 = $80 for $1

Good luck!
