It’s another Presque Isle Wednesday, so let’s see what this eight-race card has in store.
All times EDT
RACE 1 – 5 ½ furlongs, Starter Optional Claiming Post Time: 3:30 p.m
Garnet And Gold (#4) should enjoy the pace-laden field and look strong kicking for home. Kanazawa (#6) had her three-race winning streak snapped last time out but she should get back on track here, though I don’t think she wins. Time For An Angel (#2) is a personal favorite of mine who will be a part of the early pace, so it will be interesting to see if she can stick on the front end.
Race 1 selections:4-6-2
RACE 2 – 1 mile 70 yards, Claiming $6,250 Post Time: 3:57
Irish Stone (#4) beat many of these same horses last time out in a second-place finish. Candy Addiction (#6) gets the nod for second based on being new in town and turning a decent run at Belterra Park. Expresso Bay (#1) has hit the board in half his PID starts, making him a decent third choice here.
Race 2 selections:4-6-1
RACE 3 – 1 mile 70 yards, Allowance Optional Claiming Post Time: 4:24
Night Nurse (#3) has taken her last two fields gate-to-wire and is a good price at 5-1 on the morning line. Tiger Division (#2) has stayed consistent off the claim with two top-2 finishes in her last two starts. Border Control (#4) beat some of these horses last time out and should still be in good form here.
Race 3 selections:3-2-4
RACE 4 – 6 furlongs, Maiden Special Weight Post Time: 4:51
Flowline (#2) comes off a Saratoga maiden where the top two horses both advanced on to stakes tries in recent weeks. Quinntopia (#4) has been runner-up both of his starts, and I think he’ll finish similarly here. Boom (#5) has shown improvement in his second start and should be in contention here.
Race 4 selections:2-4-5
RACE 5 – 1 mile 70 yards, Claiming $5,000 Post Time: 5:18
Louisianimal (#4) is 2-for-3 going the distance and the 10 furlong race from Masters night should definitely be a key race to track. Hold Your Applause (#7) has never missed the board in four PID starts and has a decent track record at the distance. Hope Joe’s Right (#3) was turning excellent numbers on the all-weather and is a sleeper pick for the win.
Race 5 selections:4-7-3
RACE 6 – 6 furlongs, Allowance Optional Claiming Post Time: 5:45
King Mendelssohn (#2) is an easy pick after winning his last 3 and four of his last five. The Boy’s Warrior (#3) comes out of the Power By Far Stakes and before that race was undefeated at Presque Isle. Thorn Of Hearts (#5) would benefit from not having a biased track this time around, seeing as his last three races have come over a biased surface.
Race 6 selections:2-3-5
RACE 7 – 6 furlongs, Allowance Post Time: 6:12
Ninja Prize (#6) has the most experience at the allowance level and the most likely to win with multiple horses rising to this level. Nicole’s Will (#5) has been steadily climbing the ranks and hasn’t finished worse than second since joining Lance Stokes’ barn. Buck’s Howl (#1) finished behind Ninja Prize last time out and should be strong again in this spot.
Race 7 selections:6-5-1
RACE 8 – 6 furlongs, Claiming $6,250 Post Time: 6:39
Street Sue (#4) drops in tag and just clocked a 35 second work over 3 furlongs. Princess Charming (#6) runs back on short notice after a strong second place finish and the highest last-out speed figure over tapeta of the group. Juan Ariagada has a good record with horses off the claim and Lighten (#2) makes her first start at PID for a trainer with a 21% winrate with horses off the claim.
Race 8 selections:4-6-2
