AQUEDUCT 4/30/23
RACE 1
2- LAST GLIMMER- Uncle Mo homebred makes her debut in this filly sp. wt. going six furlongs. While winning with firsters isn’t exactly McGaughey’s forte, he’s certainly capable of doing so and this filly lands in a spot where she’ll be facing no killers to begin her career. Shouldn’t be bothered by an off track, as most McGaughey trainees aren’t, and should run big at first asking today.

RACE 3
1- KAYLEIGH’S PRIDE- Hennig trained filly took a hard bump to her back end after the horse next to her stumbled badly leaving the gate when making debut in a filly sp. wt. going seven furlongs in October. She recovered quickly from that to sit close, before making a move at the lead nearing the quarter pole, but then was a bit green on the wrong lead through the stretch and would go on to finish 4th as the favorite. Was stretched out to this 1 1/8 miles trip for her second start, where she set a slow pace before tiring again on the wrong lead to finish 4th. Didn’t fare too well in Florida over the winter when tried in two filly sp. wts. on the turf and she’ll get back on the dirt in this off the turfer at 1 1/8 miles if decided to be kept in the race. Is a more seasoned horse than she was in those first two career starts last fall when last raced on dirt, draws nicely on the inside and she can threaten in here.

RACE 7
2- BREW PUB- Was pushed along on the inside to stay closer than usual, before coming off the rail at the three-sixteenths to get up for 2nd in a 35k NW3L claimer over a sloppy track that was playing well to speed horses in latest 3/11. Got claimed by R. Rodriguez out of that race and he’ll move this gelding back into a state bred 2x optional claimer for the first run off the claim. Has done his best running on off tracks, should get the pace in front of him and he could be tough to hold off in the final furlong today.

RACE 9
6- BIG VENEZUELA- Was running well in defeat in these starter allowances earlier in the winter, before he threw in a clunker two back on 3/26. Didn’t run badly when put on the turf in a starter allowance going 1 1/16 miles for his next start, where he pressed the pace, put a head in front at the eighth pole, but tired inside that final furlong to finish 6th 4/16. Gets back on the dirt in this seven furlong starter allowance and he did run one of his best races at this distance and level in a 2nd place finish on 2/2 when having a similar amount of days between races as he does today from his latest. Hasn’t won in nearly two years, but he’s in the right situation to run a big race and is a strong threat in the finale.
