Without further ado….take it away Mr. Southstreet.

6-12-20

Belmont

Race 6

1 – Dyna Passer

3-22-20

Trip Note:  A perfect turf trip.  Covered up in the pocket on a slow pace. Eased to the 2 path late in the last turn and grinded out win.

Race Note:  Pace was slow.  Lone speed leader fought down the lane and 2nd.

Bias: N/A

2 – Beau Belle

3-28-20

Trip Note:  PP’s story is accurate. Definitely clipped heels while passing the finish the 1st time around – she get a pass from there.  Clipping can be painful and this one had to run another another mile after the incident.  Excused and likely needed the race anyway.

Race Note:  Pace was slow and winner was a sharp W2W performer.

Bias: N/A

3 – Vortex Road

No applicable note.  Layoff.

4 – Matty’s Magnum

No applicable note. Long time since last turf start.

5 – Beale Street

3-28-20

Trip Note:  Saved ground throughout. Tough to overcome this pace.  Jock knew he was beat and pretty much a token ride in the lane despite this being a graded stake.

Race Note:  Pace was slow and winner was a sharp W2W performer.

Bias: N/A

6 – The Great Johanna

No applicable note.  MTO.

7 – Miss Munnings

2-29-20

Trip Note:  Broke well and found a pretty good early. Just 2W and open air to her outside.  By herself on BS and at rail.  Moved up. Waiting in turn.  Looked promising.  Rail run opened at TOS and shoved on to take the spot. Was OK in lane and forced to move around a tiring horse that dropped to the fance.  Respectable run – but these were a touch too good.  Return to the previous level makes sense.

Race Note:  Pace seemed to be on the slower side early.

Bias: N/A

8 – Wegetsdamunnys

No applicable note.  Layoff.

9 – Eliade

No applicable note.  Layoff and from France.

10 – Noor Sahara (Ire)

No applicable note.  Layoff and from France.

Race 7

1 – Sharp Starr

2-15-20

Trip Note: Was off 1L+ slow and also bumping with gate.  To last.  Rider didn’t panic and allowed this one to rate at the back.  Began moving in when the FT arrived.  Was 5W throughout turn. A clear shot over the top through lane.  Never switched leads and she just kept coming.  Impressive stretch run given the wide and sustained rally.  Very nice gallop out to boot!  Was best.

Race Note:  Winner had perfect stalking trip of pace setter from the outside position.

Bias: None.

2 – Brooklyn Heights

No applicable note.  Layoff.

3 – Ghostghostghost

No applicable note.  Layoff.

5 – Bankers Daughter

2-15-20

Trip Note:  Good speed and could have tried for the lead but outside foe was moving inward so this one paused.  Pocket trip throughout.  Tipped out late in turn for a clear shot. Even in lane.  Think a cutback to 6F makes sense.

Race Note:  Winner had perfect stalking trip of pace setter from the outside position.

Bias: None.

6 – Allure Fortune

9-22-20

Trip Note:  A nice debut in her lone start as a 2YO.  Dueled early on what was a legit pace.  Put that one away.  Engaged by two foes midway in the far turn. Outran one of them but the other stuck around and fought with this one every step.  Winner came over the top and cruised right by late.  Was brave in defeat but was ‘with track.’  Picks up a rider that typically likes to ‘sit’ and takes blinkers off.  Looks like the plan might be to rate today.

Race Note:  Winner came back to run 4th beaten 8L in a 250K state for state breds.  Place finisher came back to win MSW by 6L and then finished 2nd in a 100K state for stated breds.

Bias: Strong inside.

7 – Eloquent Speaker

2-1-20

Trip Note:  Was the widest of a 4-across 1L stack into the FT.  Visually impressive brush towards the leader while 4-5W through the turn.  Stalled late in the FT when leader began spurting away while with the track.  Even in lane.  A useful first outing vs the track and lone speed winner.

Race Note:  Winner went W2W with the bias.

Bias: Strong inside.

10 – Calidad

3-14-20

Misc. note:  This is a big filly.  Should appreciate more ground.

Trip Note:  Was off 1L slow.  SLightly intimidated away from stalls (not uncommon for Quality Road prodigy); held her head high and seemed uncertain.  Began making up ground down the BS and green some heading into FT while quickly lugging out when being steered around rivals.  Wide run through turn while making a visually impressive run.  Switched leads perfectly at TOS and ran well while leveling and taking aim at 3-2* winner that was far in front.

Race Note:  2nd time starter for Linda Rice wins in what was a slowly run race early that came home very well.

Bias: None.

11 – Jewel of Arabia (first time out)

7-18-19

Trip Note:  Was bet well considering she was entered into a stake first time out.  Was inside and hard held for the first ⅜.  Raced at rail behind top 2 and not let out until the TOS where she ran very well in the lane and was catching the top 2.  Much more speed here if she wants it.

Race Note:  N/A

Bias: None.

Churchill Downs

June 12th, 2020

Late Pick 5 Trips

Race 5

1 – Brush Dog

4-17-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story. Never involved in the race. Hard ridden from ½ mile pole to wire with little response

Race Note: 3 horse eyeball duel early set the race up for closers as the speed all collapsed.

Bias: Inside best

2 Ekati’s Verve

5-28-20 (WF Track)

Trip Note: Driving rainstorm during race. Jock yanked this one off the speed early and this one slightly tossed his head entering first turn. Didn’t think it had any outcome on the race as got good position after that. Grinded along the rail midpack the rest of the journey. Got herded to the rail late and jock had to tap on the breaks at the wire as was grinding up the backs of tired horses. Best case would’ve finished 4th in this race.

Race Note: Place horse was much the best. Never got thru on rail.

Bias: N/A

3 – Yashima

5-23-20

Trip Note: Broke fine, settled towards rear of the field. Jock asked this one to go at the 3/8ths pole. Made a brief move to the 3/16th  from the 2 path. Flat in the lane from there.

Race Note: 2/5 shot won a driving/grinding finish over a 64/1 and 15/1 shot. They were all staggering the final 16th. Winner came back to run yesterday (6/11) in a CLM50Kn2L and finished OTB (off the board)

Bias: Midtrack/Off the Pace

4 – Seven and Seven

5-22-20

Trip Note: Bumped on both sides at the start. Sat a good trip down b/s by himself about 7L back of 2x4x4 race shape. Patiently ridden up the rail on FT and got a good split in the 2 path at TOS, but leader had spurted away and was gone. Clearly 2nd best.

*Note: Think this colt will like the added 1/8 of mile today.

Race Note: Winner ran big wire to wire.

Bias: Forwardly placed horse dominated. Hard to pass leader at TOS.

5 – Pow Wow Prince

5-23-20

Trip Note: Cut off at the start and never ran a step from there.

Race Note: Note: 2/5 shot won a driving/grinding finish over a 64/1 and 15/1 shot. They were all staggering the final 16th. Winner came back to run yesterday (6/11) in a CLM50Kn2L and finished OTB (off the board)

Bias: Mid Track/Off the Pace

6 – El Franco

N/A: Never raced on dirt

7 – Swing West

N/A: Hasn’t raced on fast track since Aug 2019

8 – Liberty Pursuit

5-17-20

Trip Note: Bumped around at the start, 4 wide into first turn. Jock got after this one starting at the ½ mile pole and again on the far turn and made little impact the rest of the way. Jock gave up final 16th.

Race Note: Winner went wire to wire easily at 4/5.

Bias: N/A

9 – Vasariano

5-1-20 (Last Dirt Race)

Trip Note: Actually broke on top. Settled just behind the leaders steadily losing ground. Jock nibbled at this one to keep pace entering FT. Grinded 6W around FT and 8 wide into the lane. X-Bias trip.

*Note: This one is interesting on the drop. Throw out the turf experiment last time.

Race Note: 2nd time starter at 36/1 went W2W (Runs back Sunday) and even re-rallied in the lane to hang on though it was with the bias.

Bias: Inside much the best

10 – Instigated

5-4-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story. Was softened up just enough by the eyeball duel with a 60/1 for the first ½ mile of the race.

Race Note: Very fast early pace.

Bias: N/A

11 – Bear Oak

5-17-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story. Made a brief wide rally (4-5 path) around FT under heavy pressure. Emphasis on the brief before flattening out. Jock rode him hard all the way to the wire.

Race Note: Winner went wire to wire easily at 4/5.

Bias: N/A

12 – Ronamo

4-25-20

Trip Note: Hard to explain the logic of this trip. Didn’t appear rank going into the first turn and jock just guided him to the outside and let him go 5 wide the entire turn to go challenge the eventual winner who had the lead at the time. Then ended up clearing off by 4L before winner who had backed off came and got him. Hung on well all things considering trying all the way to the wire. Totally mismanaged ride! BTL!

*Note: Was bet sneakily to 8/1 that day moving up from MDC20K to a straight MSW. Money was down, but badly mismanaged ride. Post doesn’t help today, so will need to work out a trip. Is a 4yr old running against a bunch of 3yr olds today.

Race Note: Possible Key Race. Two next out winners come out of this race, (1) 2nd, and (1) 3rd.

Bias: Routes slightly off the pace

Race 6

1 – Limonite

5-25-20

Trip Note: Broke well. Guided to rail easily and sat a good trip on his own in 8th while there was a scramble on for the lead. Got a good seem off the FT and never kicked it in despite heavy pressure.

*Note: All 3 career turf races have been carbon copies of this performance.

Race Note: Winner went wire to wire at 7/2.

Bias: N/A

2 – Uncapped

1-18-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story. Ran hard, winner was just loaded after slow early fractions. This one still ran 23 flat in the lane. Jock stopped riding final 100 yards when he knew he was going to get run down for 3rd. Good run!

*Note: First time gelding.

Race Note: Winner went 22-2/5 final ¼! Really slow flow.

Bias: N/A

3 – Ballagh Rocks

3-28-20

Trip Note: Uncomfortable trip from start to finish. Was always caught between horses from the opening of the gate until the 16th pole. When the steadying and bumping occurred at the 1/8th pole this race was already over for this one as he had been running with no room to work with for 7/8ths of a mile. Draw a line thru this race!

Race Note: Fast time. Winner swooped the field.

Bias: N/A

4 – Mick’s Star

5-23-20

Trip Note: Asked really hard for speed at the start. Ears pinned straight back entire journey.

Race Note: Place horse got nailed late, but would have won had he not had to move 8 wide on the FT when the rest of the field engulfed early pacesetter.

Bias: N/A

5 – Celerity

N/A: Hasn’t raced on grass since Sept. 2019

6 – Forloveofcountry

N/A: Hasn’t raced on grass since June 2019

Race Note: 8/19/20: Possible key synthetic race as (2) next out winners came out of it.

7 – Set Piece (GB)

N/A: Hasn’t raced on grass since July 2019 in France

8 – Carom

1-25-20 (Last Grass Race)

Trip Note: 2x3x2 race shape. Was the inside horse of the 2nd 2 pack. Got out in the clear for FT run. Outkicked in lane.

Race Note: Winner was Spooky Channel who later came back to win #4 Mick’s Star’s last race.

Bias: N/A

9 – Krewe Chief

N/A: Hasn’t raced on grass since November 2019

Santa Anita Park

6-5-20

Late P5 Trips

Race 4

1 – Shanghai Truffles

5-14-20

Trip Note: Keen early on the stretch out. Settled into a comfortable stride into BS. Moved out about 4W passing the ½ mile pole while drifting about. Field became very compact as half the field was now inside of her. Very strange race shape.  Approaching the ¼ pole jock asked her to go. Exploded to the front with little encouragement. Swung into turn 4W and came out a bit late after a left handed whip. Jock rode her like she was 1-5. Has a nice turn of foot and should be even more effective backing down to a mile.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

2 – Wind Tartare

3-6-20

Trip Note: Under a good hold pass the wire the 1st time.  2W down the BS. Made nice progress with no cover while looking like she had plenty of horse. Asked to quicken at the 3/8th pole but was one paced. Hand ridden the last furlong as jock knew she couldn’t win.

*Note* I have always thought she was a bit of a quirky horse. Does have some things going for her today though. 3rd time in a row for Valdivia to ride which is a huge plus. Hopefully he’s learned something. Drop in class also and the cutback. Expecting improvement.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

3 – Untouched Elegance

2-28-20

Trip Note: The P.P.’s tell the story. She’s fast and only has one way to go.

Race Note: Hot pace!

Track Bias: N/A

5 – Kittyhawk Lass

2-17-20

Trip Note: Stalked pace on the rail in this compact field. 2L behind 3 abreast at the ½ mile pole. On hold there until the ¼ pole. Looked very willing. Van Dyke stayed on the rail but never had anywhere to go. I don’t think she had much horse left but will never know because he never rode her hard. Jogged home and only showed her the whip approaching the wire. Should love the cutback.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

6 – Arctic Roll

5-15-20

Trip Note: Stalked a hot pace down the BS while 2-3 paths off the rail. Outside the 3/8th pole she really caught the eye. Dove down to the rail and appeared to be picking up some big steam around the turn. Caught her first whip into the stretch as she moved out 3-4W into the lane. Could not make an impression on the two in lane.  Van Dyke high in the irons mid stretch while basically easing her. Much BTL effort considering the company.

*Note* Has already won this condition. May be a complete stand out on the drop and rider change.

Race Note:

Track Bias:

8 – Buyback

5-14-20

Trip Note: Wrangled back early while eager to go. Settled in last on the rail past the ½ mile pole. Split horses approaching the ¼ pole in the 2-3path. Tried hard down the lane while chasing Shanghai Truffles. Insignificant late check. Galloped out good.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

9 – Teachers Big Dream

5-15-20

Trip Note: Pressed pace 2W down the BS. Rider took a peak back turning for home thinking he had more horse. Fought gamely to mid way in the stretch when she encountered slight trouble. Taken in hand from there and allowed to stroll in. Speedy 3yo will try to avoid a suicidal dual on the front end.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

10- Clearly Gone

5-17-20

Trip Note: Bobbled out of the gate and it cost her about 6-7L before she recovered. Never Picked up her feet.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

11- Dorita’s Lemon

5-22-20

Trip Note: Inside speed down the BS. Shook clear at the head of the lane when foe to her outside drifted out. All out to win on the best part of the track.

*Note* Appears overmatched but she does have a good route turf pedigree.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: Speed/Stalkers dominated

Race 5

1 – Bob’s Sniper

2-29-20 (last dirt race)

Trip Note: Uneventful 5 horse field trip. Did get a little tight approaching the far turn but head on showed he never lost any momentum. Clearly 3rd best vs. a better group.

*Note* Shoule get a dream set up in here today!

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

2 – Tromador

5-15-20

Trip Note: Chased 3W BTW horses early. Leveled off in the lane closing strongly. Big gallop out. Ran well despite having no chance to catch uncontested leader.

Race Note: Winner went W2W and was aided when the other speed threw head at the start.

Track Bias: N/A

3 – Include The Tax

12-28-19 (last dirt sprint)

Trip Note: On rail early full of run behind horses passing the ½ mile pole. Shuffled back at the 3/8th pole losing a length and a half w/ nowhere to go while loaded. In hand passing the ¼ pole in 2 path awaiting room. Dove back to the rail striking the front a furlong out. Was much the best.

*Note* He would have big say if could reproduce his maiden win from back in December.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

4 – Swamp’n Ain’t Ez

4-24-20

Trip Note: Flashed big speed. Pulled up before the turn and lugged out badly. Jock must have felt something he didn’t like. Horse looked 100% fine. Jock had to be aggressive to pull him up as he resented the move. He had a ton of speed!

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

5 – Tizalwaves

4-3-20 (last dirt race)

Trip Note: Chased pace 3-4W down the BS. Angled 5-6W into the stretch and had no finish.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

6 – Mayan Warrior

5-22-20

Trip Note: 4-5W down the BS.  3L back of the leader approaching the ¼ pole. Swung into lane 3-4W. Good rally down the lane but couldn’t make up for the wide journey throughout or overcome the speed favoring strip.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: Speed/stalkers dominated

7 – Delta Forum

5-15-20

Trip Note: Slight stumble at the start. Wasn’t quick enough early to get into a comfortable position. Even all the way around. Has more speed then shown.

Race Note: Winner went W2W and was aided when the other speed threw head at the start.

Track Bias: N/A

8 – Indy Jones

3-22-20

Trip Note: Hustled hard out of the gate and dueled in a fast pace for the level. All in approaching the 3/8th pole and backed out of it at the ¼ pole.

*Note* Gets a good outside draw today and should be able to sit behind a ton of questionable speed on the cutback.

Race Note: Race collapsed.

Track Bias: N/A

Late P5 Trips

Race 6

1 – King’s Castle

Last Race: Was on turf; this note is for 5-2-20.

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story; dull effort, losing ground throughout.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

2 – Quasar Moon

Last Race: 5-24-20

Trip Note: Bumped and shuffled back to last out of the gate; settled far back and came with a decent late run to check in a well-beaten 4th.

Race Note: The pace was strong early, then slow late; most of the runners he picked off in the lane were pretty tired.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

3 – Luckytobeinamerica

Last Race: 5-24-20

Trip Note: Was hard used to gain position right from the start, then the rider lost his whip near the 3/8ths and went to whipping with the goggles; had dead aim on the leader at the head of the lane, but hung on his left lead and had to be steadied mid-stretch…..continued on gamely the rest of the way.

Race Note: The winner was a Pletcher first-off-the-claim big dropper at 7/5.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

4 – Lord Adare

Last Race: 5-10-20

Trip Note: Off a beat slow and had to be steadied briefly twice shortly thereafter; taken into the clear and didn’t do much running the final ½ mile.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

5 – London Werewolf

Last Race: 5-2-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story; sat a good trip early, then tried to lay in the final furlong while trying to chase down the top pair.

Race Note: The lugging in didn’t cost him a better placing.

Track Bias: N/A

6 – Awesome Action

Last Race: 5-24-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story; sat right off the leaders flank until the far turn, when he started to tire and gradually lost ground from there.

Race Note: The winner was a Pletcher first-off-the-claim big dropper at 7/5.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

7 – Shakem N Breakem

Last Race: 5-22-20

Trip Note: Was a bit slow into stride early and fell pretty far back; started to gain momentum into the far turn, then steadied very briefly at the top of the stretch and finished one paced to the line.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

8 – Kingsville

Last Race: 5-10-20

Trip Note: Checked slightly nearing the ½, when another runner clipped heels and came into his path; was basically wrapped up on until mid-stretch, when the rider finally asked a bit and this one finished far back but with some interest.

Race Note: The head on is what told the real story and he certainly had run across the line.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

Race 7

1 – Charge Account

Last Race: 5-22-20

Trip Note: Pretty straightforward trip, aside from the fact she seemed to lose focus a bit around the far turn, before being put to pressure and getting back on track.

Race Note: The runner-up returned to win impressively on Wednesday.

Track Bias: N/A

2 – Mystic Comin Home

Last Race: 5-24-20

Trip Note: PP’s tells the story; steadied early, took a brief lead at the 1/8th pole, before tiring and getting clipped on the line for the 2nd spot.

Race Note: Not a particularly strong race for the level, with the majority of the field going up and down at the end.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

3 – Ms Big Spring

Last Race: 4-19-20

Trip Note: Perched right outside an honest tempo early, then packed it by the time they hit the ¼ pole.

Race Note: No visible excuse for this poor effort.

Track Bias: N/A

4 – Probably Grace

Last Race: 5-8-20

Trip Note: Couldn’t have scripted a more ideal trip; sat cozily early off a two horse duel, then snuck up the fence and kicked away the final furlong.

Race Note: N/A

Track Bias: N/A

5 – Sense a Million

Last Race: 5-20-20

Trip Note: Took heat from her inside early, then once she dispatched of that foe, she was immediately attacked from her outside at the ¼; fell about a length behind and showed some real tenacity to fight back and get the win.

Race Note: The pace was avg early and slow late, which aided in her resurgence.

Track Bias: N/A

6 – Napa Rules

Last Race: 5-10-20

Trip Note:  Broke near the back of the pack, then was hustled along to sit in behind a three horse duel into the far turn; wore down a very gallant runner-up Tipsy Again in the shadow of the wire.

Race Note: The top two were well clear of the rest.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface.

7 – Fast Venezuela

Last Race: 5-14-20

Trip Note: PP’s tell the story; was very quick early and run down late by a sharp one at GP right now Don’t Get Khozy.

Race Note: Would’ve been beneficial for the rider to try and slow her down a bit in the initial stages, instead of opening up four. Change of rider this afternoon.

Track Bias: N/A

8 – Tipsy Again

Last Race: 5-10-20

Trip Note: Broke a beat slow, then was gunned right into a brief three horse duel; dispatched of his early rivals to take a clear lead for home and was nailed right on the line by Napa Rules.

Race Note: Ran entirely too good to lose.

Track Bias: Sloppy surface
