Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Preview – By Edison Hatter

2021 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies

By Edison Hatter

A small but select field of six will contest this year’s $2 Million Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies. (6) ECHO ZULU will look to become the first favorite in the Juvenile Fillies to win since 2015. She has a very strong resume coming from New York, including a pair of Grade I wins in the Spinaway and Frizette, as well as a convincing maiden score. Expect her to go straight to the front and not look back from there, but if you really want to try to beat the favorite here, a possible knock is that she hasn’t gone two turns yet, but that’s unlikely to be a problem for her.

(5) JUJU’S MAP will probably be the second choice on the basis of a strong score in the Grade I Alcibiades at Keeneland, but (2) HIDDEN CONNECTION will be my second choice here on the basis of a dominating score in the Grade III Pocahontas at Churchill Downs – she won by 9.25 lengths and was just cruising through the stretch.

(4) TARABI may take some play here as she was only beaten four lengths in a second place effort behind ECHO ZULU recently in a race where she has some issues out of the gate. (3) SEQUIST has proven to be a deep closer in her races so far and has a distant third and fourth place finish to JUJU’S MAP and ECHO ZULU in her past. Tough to imagine the pace scenario works in her favor here.

(1) DESERT DAWN was an unimpressive third in the Grade II Chandelier. The only potential positive going in her direction is that she is based in California and broke her maiden over this Del Mar track.

Selections: 6-2-5-4
