This told me a lot about the questions I was asking about myself right now. I don’t want to get into my family situation growing up but I could never figure out why I was so determined to be a great surfer. I was very young (14, 15 years old) out in huge waves, sometimes alone in the winter. Why? I was successful and began winning contests but why? None of my girl friends surfed nor was there a boy I was interested in. No it was just me. I stated out for hours. Generally 4-5 hours unless very cold. Even then it was usually hours in winter. Now I know listening to Karen. I was running away from my family situation and finding a place for myself. A place no one hated me or blame me for things I didn’t do or couldn’t help. A place no one hated me. Karen answered my question although I was mulling this over and trying to figure it out on my own. Those that have been hurt as kids have to talk about this to help others. Thank you brave Karen, you helped me very much.
