Canterbury Park Analysis – Sunday, Aug. 22th – by Howard Kravets

BF:  Bad Favorite   LS: Long Shot

Race 1:  2-6-3

#2 Pretti Ta Kela dropping down, going turf to dirt, for excellent connections of Robertson and Canchari. The class of the field and likely winner vs. these.

Race 2:    3-1-7

Nice alw. race with lots of possibilities to choose from. #3 Cernan ran his best race first off the claim for Diodoro. Think 4yo colt will get the jump on the closers, and if he can repeat last effort, will be tough.

Race 3:    3-4-2

#3 Discreet Tiger taking a pretty drop for aforementioned connections of Robertson and Canchari. Will show speed from the start and w/ a clean break will be prominent throughout.

Race 4:    5-3-1   (Pick 5 starts here)

Fascinating race to start the P5….I believe first 2yo 2-turn turf race of the season. I mentioned #5 Yo Dawg on Twitter when he first ran, as I was at Arlington in person that day. Had the rail, didn’t start great, but made a very nice rally inside of horses through the stretch. 3rd-place finisher came back to win on Friday. Should improve with distance.

Race 5:    9-8-3

This race might be toughest one on the card. I’ll take a shot with #9 Mischievous Mo, who turns back in distance and has early speed to chase into….on paper at least. Not the most positive jockey switch from Hamilton to Fuentes, but jock more than capable.

Race 6:    4-7-10

#4 Go Speed Racer Go, at 5-1 ML, is one of my favorite plays of the day. You’ll have to go watch the last replay, but he got a sneaky bad trip. There’s more early speed to set up his close in this spot, should save ground, and explode late. I’m expecting this 3yo colt to take a step forward here and win at a medium price.

Race 7:    4-1-3

#4 Mocha Kiss is a recent claim, and jockey Harr has experience on this one. Has faced much, much tougher and has figs that can easily win this with any decent trip. Last time faced a freaky fast horse for the level, don’t be discouraged by the running line.

Race 8:    2-3-7

#2 Moreisbetter should be much tighter for this start, after running well vs. many of these off of a very long layoff of 1 1/2 years. I see no reason why Moreisbetter can’t improve, and maybe sit off others who will gun to the lead. Stalk and pounce at a medium price today?
