Twilight racing action at Colonial Downs this Friday afternoon with a first post of 4:40p. A couple of spot plays for you including a horse I was intending to play last week but was scratched.

Colonial Downs Race 2: Sevilla (#7) at 9-2 or higher
You don’t see many allowance races for juveniles nowadays as it’s normally off to stakes races after these 2YO’s break their maiden, but we have one of those going 6 panels over Colonial’s dirt course. If this morning line holds up, I’m more than happy to play against the inside two runners as Libitina (#1) defeated a weak field last time and with this being her 6th start La Marinera (#2) has more limited upside than her competition. I view Continuity (#4) as squarely the horse to beat off a hard-fought win at Ellis last time. That was tougher company and I like that she and the 2nd place finisher drew well clear of that field. Eddie Kenneallt reaches out to Ben Curtis for the ride. However, my top pick is Sevilla (#7) who should be a price in this spot. While it was just a maiden claiming race that she exits, she was able to turn back a well-meant Vekoma filly in Suzies Pride as those two drew nearly 14 lengths clear of the show finisher. I liked that she was able to settle a touch off the pace before making a move with those tactics likely to suit her this evening.
Colonial Downs Race 8: Dawn’s Creed (#8) at 3-1 or higher
Quite a few of the contenders in this spot are coming out of the same August 1st event upset by 26-1 Megeezer. While horses like Country Economics (#5), Queen Valentina (#6) and Monster Summer (#10) can all win, I don’t want a short price on runners that have had too many chances at this point. Dawn’s Creed (#8) is an interesting new face off the layoff for the Michael Tomlinson barn. She’s got the speed to compete in this event and I like Jimmy Creed as a sire for turf sprints. At 15-1 on the morning line, I do8- worry she’ll become everyone’s wise guy horse, but hopefully she still goes off an appealing price. I can also throw in Syle and Profile (#4) who finally tries turf for the first time and gets Gallardo aboard as well as Storm Creed (#1) who is also by Jimmy Creed and might appreciate this shorter trip.
