Del Mar (Sunday-11/10/24) By Dean Keppler

Analysis & Selections By: Dean Keppler @Keppskorner

BEST BET: 2-She’s Resilent (Race 3)

 Race #1: Selections: 4-5-2

4-Wren (a $500k juvenile filly by Into Mischief) improved over 20 Beyer points on the stretch-out to two turns in her second career try on Oct. 12 when finishing second and is dangerous right back with another forward move. 5-Aunt Mo (by Uncle Mo) goes two sprints to a route in career start number three for conditioner Peter Eurton off an improving Byeer pattern and is bred to handle two turns successfully. This filly appears to be the main danger to the top pick. Blinkers off 2-Mia Sorpresa should improve on the stretch-out while making the all-important third career try.

Race #2: Selections: 5-6-2

Dirt to turf 5-Nap doesn’t have much grass pedigree to speak of but stretches out to two turns today for the first time on the surface switch, and could find himself a loose leader. 6-Uncle Evco drops out of the Grade 3 Zuma Beach Stakes back into the Maiden ranks for trainer Michael McCarthy and finished a good third over the Del Mar turf course two-back. 2-Dynodave finished a solid closing third at 30-1 behind a slow pace in his most recent turf rout try on Oct. 18.

Race #3: Selections 2-6-3

2-She’s Resilient seeks her third straight win this afternoon exiting a solid recent victory at Fresno on Sept. 22 where she earned a field’s best last out (74) Beyer figure. The 4-year-old filly in an impressive 7 for 16 lifetime, and figures to sit a favorable pocket trip behind the pacesetters. 6-Gypsy Lynn is a multiple winner over this track and distance. She was a solid 3 ½-length winner over this main track three-back at this same $10k claiming level at today’s 5 ½-furlong distance. 3-Ur in Trouble goes turf to dirt on the class dup for conditioner Ryan Hanson and is eligible to bounce back this afternoon in this softer spot off three consecutive subpar efforts.

Race #4: Selections: 3-2-1

3-Magnify improved substantially in career start number two when finishing second with an (85) Beyer figure back on August 22. The son of Justify makes his first start for trainer Tim Yakteen and has trained exceptionally well since his last effort. 2-Shofner is a pricey son of Medaglia d’Oro who has shown ability in both career tries for trainer John Shirreffs and now makes the all-important third start. He’s continued to train well since his last runner-up route placement including firing a five-furlong bullet in :59 flat on Nov. 4. 1-Excel Calculator makes career start number 11 today off a 10-month layoff for trainer Ron Ellis and has run some main track route Beyers that match up well here.

Race #5: Selections: 1-5-4

Blinkers on 1-Perfect in Gray has speed from the rail and goes first off the claim for trainer Jorge Periban. This barn has had decent success with new acquisitions from limited opportunities and this filly should be tough to reel in with an alert break. 5-Misty Muppet moves back to dirt dropping in class from a $25k claiming N2L to today’s $16,000 level for trainer Mike Puype. She makes her third start of the form cycle this afternoon and projects to be forwardly placed. Blinkers on 4-Amelia Bleu goes turf to dirt on the cutback in distance this afternoon while getting some class relief. The 3-year-old filly shows a sharp four-furlong main track drill on Nov. 2 in preparation for this.

Race #6: Selections: 5-8-10

This is a tricky and competitive $20k Maiden Claiming route for colts and geldings with several different directions one could potentially go. 5-Silver N Black has had several chances thus far to break his Maiden without success but drops down to a career-low $20k tag today and moves back to dirt where he finished a good second over this surface three-back. A repeat of that (69) main track route figure would likely be good enough to win this. 8-Mining District drops in for a first-time tag today on the surface switch and is eligible to wake-up significantly for Team O’Neill. The 3-year-old gelding is by multiple G1 winner Accelerate, who get s a solid 17% with his dirt route prodigy. His stablemate 10-Stickshift drops again off his recent well-beaten third-place effort against $40k Maiden Claimers on Sept. 27 and now makes his third start off the bench. The first-time gelding’s Beyers are moving in the right direction, and he is another in here that’s not without a chance.

Race #7: Selections: 3-5-9

3-My Summer Dream fell just a neck short in his most recent try at this $25k claiming level on Sept. 29 at Santa Anita and now makes his third try of the form cycle today for trainer Jeff Mullins. The 6-year-old gelding defeated similar two-back when last going five furlongs over this course and co-tops the field’s best last-out grass Beyer. 5-Cane Creek Road finished fourth behind a pair of next-out winners on Oct. 4 and now drops from $40k to $25,000 claimers today. This 6-year-old gelding is a multiple winner over the track and distance and looks like the main threat to the top choice. Blinkers off 9-Helladic has good speed from the outside but tired in last two grass sprint tries over this course three and four-back. He’s eligible to hang on for part of this with the right trip.

Race #8: Selections: 4-7-2

The stakes-winning 3-year-old filly 4-Pushiness sports a solid resume of (4-1-1) from seven career starts and comes off a sharp six-furlong score on Oct. 13 for trainer Michael McCarthy. The 3-year-old daughter of Kantharos looks like the main speed and is also proven just as effective at seven panels. 7-Irish Wahine drops out of a pair of Grade three events into this softer spot and is 1 for 1 going seven furlongs. She finished behind the lightly raced and talented One Magic Philly in her most recent start, and that stakes-winning gal finished sixth in the BC Filly & Mare Sprint last week. The multiple stakes-winning 2-Chismosa returns to her preferred surface and racetrack. The 4-year-old filly sports a (3-2-0) record from six starts at DMR. This filly may have too much to do in the late stages if the top choice isn’t pressured.

Race #9: Selections: 3-2-1

3-Andreadytorumble finished a much-improved second when dropped to this $50k Maiden Claiming level in his most recent start on Oct. 13 and deserves another chance at this reduced level for trainer Peter Miller.  The lightly-raced 2-Phoenix Flying makes career start number two exiting an encouraging better-than-looks fifth-place effort in his Oct. 19 grass debut try. He stretches out to two turns this afternoon and is bred to handle a route. The 10-start Maiden 1-Quality Wins has had several close finishes and sharp tries both sprinting and routing on turf and is likely to break through one of these afternoons for conditioner Mark Glatt.
