Horses to Follow
R1: WHATSYOURBIGIDEA (2/1 ML)
WHATSYOURBIGIDEA made her turf route debut when last seen and took a nice step forward for the in-form Lacey Gaudet barn. Setting closer-friendly fractions of 23.18 and 46.51 for 1 1/16 miles, the six-year-old mare gamely held the lead to the 1/16 pole before grudgingly giving way to finish second behind the 7/2 second choice, who was 11 lengths off the pace at the second call. That effort is deserving of a pace upgrade, and if able to ration her speed more efficiently cutting back to a flat mile today, she could prove tough to peg back in the opener.
R6: BAY STREET MONEY (10/1 ML)
In today’s wide-open sixth going a mile on the turf, the veteran BAY STREET MONEY is worth a second look. Trained by Paulina Sinnefia, the nine-year-old went close in a pair of competitive turf races at Monmouth last year, posting Beyers of 75 and 76 despite having no pace to run at on September 19 and then enduring a nightmare trip when finishing just behind re-opposing BAR FOURTEEN in October—both efforts that can be upgraded. He’s shown little on dirt the last twice, but this is a different scenario: second off the layoff, back on turf, and with a strong pace forecast for him to close into. If he still holds that level of turf form, a clean trip gives him every chance to land this.
R9: SERENE SPIRIT (9/5 ML)
Making her debut for trainer Robbie Bailes and returning on just 11 days’ rest, SERENE SPIRIT stalked a blistering pace (21.75, 44.73) when back on the turf last time and fended off all but one closer to finish a very game second—an effort that deserves a pace upgrade. Better rested now and making her third start off the layoff, she meets a weaker group here and, from a tactical post, could prove tough to beat in the nightcap.
