Analysis & Selections By: Dean Keppler @Keppskorner

BEST BET: 5-Saul Elliot (Race 1)

Race #1: Selections: 5-6-3

5-Saul Elliott goes turf to dirt, and second off the claim for conditioner Peter Miller, who sports a solid 3 for 8 (36%) with a positive ROI the past three years with this claiming angle at Los Al. This juvenile colt is stakes placed and enters here off a pair of top efforts. The Doug O’Neill-trained 6-Thirsty Rebel drops out of three consecutive state-bred stakes into this softer spot this afternoon and sports the field’s best last-out dirt Beyer (70). 3-Chase N Ryan steps up in sharp form, having won two straight for trainer Steve Knapp, and ran well in his lone try over this course.

Race #2: Selections: 8-3-6

A maiden winner over this racetrack, 8-Angi’s Tipsy drops from $10k N2L claimers to this afternoon’s $6,250 level for trainer Steve Sherman and projects to get a favorable upfront pressing trip with today’s outside draw. 3-Wild Cat Danzing makes her second start off the bench today, off a troubled trip eighth on Nov. 9, and is eligible to improve off that effort with the class relief. The sophomore daughter of Danzing Candy was a MDSW winner over this afternoon layout three back. 6-Mia Mac has run well in two of her last three starts when facing better and shows a sharp five-furlong bullet drill in :59.3 over this course on Nov. 29.

Race #3: Selections: 7-2-8

7-Toaster is by multiple G1 winner McKinzie, debuting for Team Baffert off a series of strong a.m. drills and lures barn’s go-to pilot, Juan Hernandez. 2-Wolf Hill (by Upstart) flashed solid early speed behind gate-to-wire winner Mimi’s Memory Nov. 2 on debut at Del Mar and figures to be a handful with any normal second-out progression for trainer Leonard Powell. This juvenile filly has worked four times since that encouraging unveiling. The other Baffert is 8-Sounds Lucky, who removes the blinkers today and shortens back up to a sprint off a speed-and-fade going one mile at Santa Anita on Oct. 11. The Tiz the Law juvenile finished a decent third in her 5 ½-furlong debut back in early September.

Race #4: Selections: 8-4-3

8-Nobel Gary is 1-for-20 but has run well in his last five starts, including a good second at 26-1 over this course three back. The 5-year-old adds blinkers today, has solid speed to coincide with his outside draw, and sports the field’s best last-out dirt Beyer (71). 4-Spun Not Stirred was a well-beaten third in his most recent try on Nov. 7, but takes a substantial class drop today for trainer Peter Eurton, while making his second start off the mini-freshening. Improvement likely. 3-McGregor Lake returned off a year’s layoff with a dull try just two weeks ago, but moves back to the main track today for conditioner Doug O’Neill with the addition of blinkers and can move forward this afternoon facing cheaper.

Race #5: Selections: 3-5-12

3-Shes Just Fluffy has been equally effective on the evening program and today’s bigger afternoon course for trainer Francisco Rodriguez and has finished first or second in her last four starts. The 5-year-old mare drops back down to the $6,250 claiming level for her return to the afternoon layout off back-to-back runner-up finishes at 1,000 yards. 5-Rock N Roll Song is a 10-time winner, who won at this class and distance three back. This hard-hitting 6-year-old mare figures for a favorable upfront pressing journey and has traded punches with Shes Just Fluffy in her last two starts. Class dropping 12-Miracle Ball is wheeled back on short rest after chasing the frontrunners and tiring to fifth on Dec. 5, going this 5 ½-furlong trip. The 4-year-old filly has won half of her lifetime starts (4-for-8), and two of those wins came over this racetrack.

Race #6: Selections: 7-5-2

7-Eldis raced wide after a tardy beginning in her Nov. 22 Del Mar debut for trainer Leonard Powell when attracting some tote action, and now gets off the rail and a better post draw for start number two. This gray filly is eligible to show a much-improved try in start number two, meets a suspect group, and offers some value. 5-Big A’s Little One goes turf to dirt on the sizable class plunge from $50k Maiden claimers down to today’s $12,500 level for trainer Andy Mathis after facing several of these in her most recent try over the Del Mar lawn Nov. 14. The 3-year-old daughter of Mr. Big should fall into a favorable stalking trip. 2-Expressive Love finished just in front of Big A’s Little One in that last grass route and was an improved second when last facing this level three back. This filly picks up the hot hand of jockey Armando Ayuso.

Race #7: Selections: 3-2-4

A full field of 11 evenly-matched 2-year-old fillies lines up in this competitive sprint. 3-Dakota’s Shadow (by Stay Thirsty) debuts for Berrios and Mullins off a solid and steady work tab and should come out running on debut. This lucrative jockey-trainer combo is 2-for-5, 40% with a $15.24 ROI (5-5 ITM) overall at Los Al. 2-Violets Song has yet to hit the board in three career tries for Team Miller, but drops in for a first-time tag this afternoon on a relatively quick turnaround and figures to improve with today’s class relief. 4-Shady Stripes also drops in for a first-time tag off a 3 ½-month freshening and ran a strong (68) main track Beyer on debut back in May. The Jeff Bonde-trained daughter of Smiling Tiger has flashed good speed in all three of her career starts.

Race #8: Selections: 11-7-8-9

A potential Berrios/Mullins late double as he sends our first off the claim, 11-Thirsty Trickster, in the Friday nightcap. This sophomore filly returns protected this afternoon off the $16k Nov. 2 purchase when finishing a solid runner-up, and that “key” race has produced three next-out winners. 7-Goodnight Nellie goes first off the re-claim for conditioner Andy Mathis, exiting a beaten favorite third at Santa Anita back on Oct. 12. The 4-year-old daughter of Lord Nelson was a solid 3 ½-length winner in her lone try over the Los Al afternoon layout back in early July. The late closing 8-Buds N Suds earned a career-best dirt Beyer (68) off his most recent third-place effort on Nov. 22 when finishing nicely at 25-1 and defeated cheaper over this strip earlier this summer. 9-Stop Digging likes to finish second, as evidenced by her 12-2-7-0 mark for trainer Simon Callaghan, but returns fresh off an 8-month layoff and retains Hernandez.
