BELMONT – 6/4/22

RACE 1: 4-8-1-5

#4 RUSSIARUSSIARUSSIA ran fast enough to win this race as a 2 year-old and now returns off a layoff with Lasix.  She has the tactical speed to stay within range early here and will be a deserving heavy favorite.

RACE 2: 1-5-6-2

#1 IRISH GIANT had a tough trip last time out between breaking slowly then making a wide off the pace move in a race where the frontrunners dominated.  He can improve today on a big jockey change and should be a square price as well.

RACE 3: 1-7-2-4

The last effort from #1 GREATEST LOVE was quite solid, and the competition she met that day was far tougher than today.  She has tactical speed and the blinkers are going on, so she should be even sharper in the opening stages.  Look for Joel Rosario to put her in the mix early.

RACE 4: 1-7-6-2

#1 VALMONT had some traffic troubles heading into the far turn last time out.  He is now first off a claim by Mike Maker and should get a solid pace to run at in the late stages this afternoon.  The best races he’s run undoubtedly make him a contender.

RACE 5: 6-5-1-7

#6 SARAH’S SPLENDOR is a firster by Summer Front, whose progeny connect on debut at a 11% clip.  The dam side here is loaded with turfers, and this filly hails from a barn that’s quite capable of having one ready on debut.  The price here will be fair as well.

RACE 6: 5-1-3-4

The last effort from #5 F F ROCKET was certainly good enough to contend for top honors here.  He showed more tactical speed in his last start, which is often a sign a horse is in rapidly improving form.

RACE 7: 9-4-1-5

#9 MONA STELLA cuts back in distance for trainer Patrick Biancone after facing far tougher last time out.  She classes up well in this field and is probably better off sprinting given prior form.  The quicker the pace early, the better for this daughter of Will Take Charge.

RACE 8: 1-6-3-2

#1 AIR SHOW is first off a claim by Rudy Rodriguez (29% 1st Clm, dirt, route, $2.05 ROI) and this gelding has excellent back form.  Whether he can still produce at a high level remains to be seen, but the class jump off the claim is a positive sign.

RACE 9: 6-7-4-5

#6 EMMANUEL is bred well for turf, and trainer Todd Pletcher couldn’t wait to get him to the lawn.  The 2nd family is loaded with turf, including Trensa, and the runners she produced such as Hawkbill.  The lead is his for the taking and that makes him a very serious player.

RACE 10: 9-1-3-6

#9 HERINGTON ROCKET is a second timer who showed some life on debut and now gets Lasix as she returns from a layoff.  She should improve this afternoon and will be a fair price as well for these connections.
