RACE 1: 3-4-2-7
#3 MAX MONEY ran a credible race on debut for Mike Maker against similar and should improve with experience. He was bet down to 6-1 in a field of 8 on debut, which constitutes real action at the windows. The 1-2 finishers in that affair figure to be stakes caliber NY breds, so there’s reason to believe this guy will improve enough 2nd time out to get the job done.
RACE 2: 3-5-6-4
It’s easier to take #3 BILLIONAIRES ROW out of the common race with #6 ALEXIS ZORBA. The former was in behind horses then had to angle inside to make a final bid. That is not the best pathway for off the pace types, and he now lands in a pace-laden bunch where things should heat up early. That’ll help him unleash that good late kick.
RACE 3: 9-2-4-8
#9 SWEET LITTLE LILA is a first timer and the first foal to race out of the dual Grade I placed Sassy Little Lila. She is training well for the debut and hails from the dangerous barn of Brittany Russell. She is by Palace Pier, who has not had a foal start in North America, but the turf influence should undoubtedly be there. None of her rivals today have distinguished themselves in the mornings according to the clockers.
RACE 4: 3-1/1A-2-7
The gradual improvement since being claimed by #3 TIBERIUS MERCURIUS is encouraging, as he ran another solid race last time out when 3rd at Finger Lakes. His trainer has a gaudy record with dirt starters adding blinkers, mainly because of one 48-1 winner at Aqueduct. If the shades keep this guy more involved early, that will only help his chances.
RACE 5: 10-11-12-9
#10 MOONLIGHT DRIVE is a sibling of NY bred stake winner Moonage Daydream and has been training with that mare. He has looked good in the mornings for a barn that has had a very productive meet. The outside draw will help his chances, and she is certainly bred for turf success.
RACE 6: 8-6-3-2
#8 TACTICS is a firster by Tacitus, who has yet to have a debut winner in his first crop. The dam scored twice and they gave 60k for this colt at the Maryland Sale back in May. He draws well on the outside in a bid to become trainer Todd Pletcher’s 7th 2YO winner of the meet.
RACE 7: 2-5-8-1
The trip endured last time out at Keeneland by #2 SALAMIS was hardly ideal. She was floated wide on the first turn and lost ground, then made a sustained 5w move around the far turn. The brief break should set her up for success, and there shouldn’t be much keeping her from saving ground today. Her dam, Antonoe, was a Grade I winner who bested Sassy Little Lila, dam of the 9 horse in the 3rd today.
RACE 8: 6-9-2-3
#6 MAGGIE GO was never close to the inside in her last start, and saving ground was a major benefit that afternoon at Monmouth. This Argentine-bred was out of the gate quickly last time out, then that snowballed as she made a bold middle move before tiring. The ability to lay back and make one gives this gal a chance.
RACE 9: 2-1-7-6
#2 CONSIDER IT DONE is quick enough to get to the top in this affair and likely won’t quit unless confronted early. Linda Rice has had influence on this meet and he should be quick enough to get the top early. His best races undoubtedly make hm formidable.
RACE: 10-3-5-2
There’s no denying the wide trip endured by #8 WICKED IMPROBABLE on debut wrecked his chances. He should improve with a race behind him, especially on a fairer turf surface. The inside was a massive advantage last time out and this guy was wide the entire trip.
