RACE 1: 4-1-3-2
#4 TAGERMEEN is reportedly training well for the unveiling and starts for a Hall of Fame barn that has already proven to have a strong hand of 2Yos in 2025. The dam here was a minor winner and she produced the freakish looking Taraz, who won two stakes impressively to begin her career before being injured. This guy turned heads at the OBS April Sale with a :9 and 4/5 breeze and should be quick off the mark.
RACE 2: 1-7-3-5
The debut run of #1 SPA PROSPECTOR should only help her as she makes her second start today for Tom Amoss. This barn scored a win here on Friday and this filly was well backed in her unveiling. She showed brief early interest before packing it in, but likely needed a race and figures to benefit from having a run behind her this afternoon. Look for her to be quicker off the mark at second asking as well.
RACE 3: 3-7-5-2
#3 MEGA MAGIC is shipping in from Churchill with just one dirt race under his belt. Trainer Al Stall, Jr. has had a great deal of success at Saratoga in the past, hitting at a 20% clip overall, good for a $2.38 ROI. This guy will get his first opportunity on a dry dirt track today and should have a decent pace to run at late. The addition of blinkers might just sharpen him up enough early to get more in the mix down the backstretch.
RACE 4: 2-5-7-8
#2 GRAYWING is the one to catch provided he can get out of the gate in one piece today for trainer Oscar Barrera, III. He was out of the gate very poorly last time out and that wrecked his chances, as he wound up deep in the pack before fading late. This is a softer spot than the one he exits and he should be a much bigger threat if able to use his speed, which is undoubtedly his best weapon.
RACE 5: 1-8-5-4
#1 CLEAR CONSCIENCE gets a tepid nod here off the win in the Kingston for Mark Casse. He’s hardly a horse to lean on in multi-race bets, but does have the right credentials to be viewed a win candidate here. The inside draw and the increased tactical speed make him a far more complete horse, as he won last out because he was in a forward position when the running started. Casse continues to excel at the Spa and he and Jose Ortiz are a potent combo here over the last couple of years (10-25, $5.18 ROI).
RACE 6: 6-1-3-2
The pedigree on #10 COLLECTIVE BEAUTY is really much more geared towards dirt, so it’s interesting that Eclipse Award winning trainer Brad Cox is debuting this filly on the grass. She is out of a dam who was second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on synthetics and but she had success on the main track. The second family includes dirt graded stakes winners Red Ruby and Mo Tom. In Brad we trust?
RACE 7: 4-2-9-6
The improvement shown last out by #4 DRAKE’S PASSAGE is a positive sign, as he was a good third in the Commentator. He got back to some of his better speed figures in that effort and should be in line to take another step forward today with Kendrick Carmouche astride. His best races have come when she’s shown a good amount of early speed and that appears to be the plan here given the riding assignment!
RACE 8: 5-7-1-8
There’s an obligation to picking against horses like #7 FAR BRIDGE, who simply do just enough to win while making routine look exciting. He is a 2x graded stakes winner this year coming off a miss in a grade I, but he is clearly the horse to beat on paper given his prior efforts. There’s enough pace to set the table, but I’m siding with #5 WEBSLINGER. He comes in off a synthetic try at Woodbine where he was rolling late and now gets back to a turf marathon, which is a trip he’s gone successfully in the past. The key will be getting the jump on Far Bridge, who is likely going to be coming from behind him.
RACE 9: 9-3-1/1A-5
The recent turf efforts of #9 THEN make him the one to beat given the way he rallied into a slow pace two back and a race that had no off the pace moves last time. He is a closer who’ll need to be more in range early today, but he always fires and comes in with a strong turf drill two back with stablemate Thirteen Colonies, who was set to run Friday before being washed off the turf. Look for Then in the closing stages at a square price.
RACE 10: 4-5-8-10
#4 GENERAL PARTNER is the horse to beat here, but he’ll have to overcome a fast pace as he moves up in class for Chad Brown. When last seen on the Belmont Stakes undercard, this son of Speightstown looked awfully good pulling clear as the favorite in a sloppy N2X at 7 panels. He should be up and on the pace again, but Flavien Prat will need to adjust to what may end up being a hot early pace. The alternative is #5 SCOTLAND, a two-time Saratoga winner who comes in fresh off a nice win to cap his 2024 campaign at Churchill Downs.
RACE 11: 4-1-5-2
#4 EXCELLENT TRUTH has run second twice in a couple of prior starts since shipping in to the United States. She has had trip-related issues each time and arguably could be 2-2 since coming stateside. Last time she was always wider and more out of position than stablemate #5 DYNAMIC PRICING, yet still finished with aplomb to round out the exacta. The 9th furlong figures to do her a world of good this afternoon and she’ll be no worse than 2nd choice with the heavy fave on the rail.
RACE 12: 6-4-2-9
#6 GIRLS ROCK really hit her stride late last time out when 3rd at 5-1 in a bulky field under the twin spires. She is a major threat to get the job done here given the marked improvement since moving to turf for Whit Beckman. The slow break left her farther off the pace last time, but she doesn’t have to be so far back with a cleaner break from the gate this afternoon.
