RACE 2: 2-3-5
#2 TOGA TWIST was impressive in a debut score where he battled tooth and nail with another promising colt and won a narrow decision. That runner-up has since returned to break his maiden and this son of Omaha Beach should only get better with experience.
RACE 3: 5-3-4-2
#5 VACATION DANCE didn’t have the cleanest of trips last time out when 2nd behind a dominant winner. He should get a good trip from just off the pace once again today and has enough tactical speed to lay close early. There’s a dearth of speed in this compact field and that only helps his chances.
RACE 4: 7-5-3-6
The pace edge in here goes to #7 TUT’S REVENGE, who is quick enough to grab command in the opening stages. He’s been more forwardly placed when ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr. in the past and the door is wide open for him to take command of this thing early. There’s no doubt he’s seen better days, but that does not preclude him from stepping up to win this.
RACE 5: 5-6-3-2
#5 SOLUTIONS was on a 3w chase much of the way on debut and the rail was the place to be that afternoon. This son of Violence is now training well for his return to the main track after a poor effort going long on the lawn last time out. Trainer Dave Donk has given him some time off, which will only help him given the recent worktab.
RACE 6: 2B-3-6-1
The ride that #2B COMPLEX AGENDA got last out was hardly ideal, as he was wide the entire trip. Javier Castellano more or less gave up on him in upper stretch and he wound up finishing with interest late in the game. This is a key class drop and trainer Todd Pletcher is a whopping 32% in turf routes at the Spa where his horses are going 2nd off 180+ day layoffs ($4.04 ROI).
RACE 7: 6-4-1-5
This feels like the right spot for #6 HOURS IN A DAY as he goes 2nd off a layoff for Linda Rice. He was a distant second behind a runaway winner last time out but that was his first start in over 8 months, so there are valid excuses. Rice is 29% with dirt routers going 2nd off 180+ day breaks, good for a $2.05 ROI.
RACE 8: 2-5-3-6
The scratches direct me to #2 TIME TO DREAM, who was an impressive debut winner for Todd Pletcher. She rolled home from off the pace in solid fashion and looked like a horse who’ll only get better with experience. If she gets some pace to run at, which she certainly should, look for her to make serious noise late.
RACE 9: 6-10-9-2
#6 REVEL TOAST is dangerous on the surface switch for the red-hot barn of Tom Amoss. This filly is out of a dam who was a turf winner and is by 8% turf sire Maclean’s Music. Jockey Lane Luzz is clearly having a rough meet, but he is more than capable when it comes to riding forwardly placed horses and this gal should go, go, go early.
