Late Pick 5 sequence:
Race 5 SELECTIONS: 3 – 6
#3 Examiner cuts back in distance today and gets new connections. Trainer Aubrey Maragh is solid first off the claim and jockey Luis Saez likes to get into the race early which should also help, as this gelding likes to be forwardly placed. #6 Sixty One has very good closing speed in a race that should have moderate pace.
Race 6 SELECTIONS: 2 – 3
#2 Built Different is dropping in class for a very good trainer and jockey. Has been off for the last four months but her workout tab indicates that she is ready. #3 Tempora is a lightly raced 3-year-old filly who has been running shorter distances on the Tapeta and finishing with some interest.
Race 7 SELECTIONS: 4 – 2
#4 Favor is returning after a four-month layoff. Earlier this year she ran in two graded stakes races at longer distances; if she runs her race, the other fillies will be hoping to get second place at best. #2 Don’t Get Khozy is a closer that can be very dangerous in this spot. If she can get near the top flight early she should have a chance.
Race 8 SELECTIONS: 13 – 12 – 3
#13 Fish Mooney is a versatile runner for trainer Mark Casse. Is on the AE list but if she draws in should be considered. #12 Tamarindo drops in class and is second off the layoff for high profile trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Has the jockey and running style to be very competitive in this spot. #3 Miles of Smiles is my long shot play in this race but should be able to compete with this group if she gets a good setup and takes to the turf.
Race 9 SELECTIONS: 8 – 5 – 4
#8 Feline is the deserving morning line favorite. She has been the most consistent but she is still a maiden. #5 Stake a Claim ran a hard fought second place finish last time out. Today she returns to a similar distance and surface but also steps up in class. #4 Never is sometimes very good and sometimes very bad. Returns from a two-month layoff for a new trainer and gets a top jockey in the irons.
