On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Friday(February 03, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   1  –  8  –  4

#8 State Crown has been popular at the claiming box lately and today she will be making her first start for the barn of Jose D’Angelo.  She is in good form and has been very competitive at this level, let’s see if the barn change helps her to get over the hump.  #1 Riveting Spirit will be looking for return to form after her return to the races didn’t go as planned.  There is room for improvement here as she will be getting back to the turf and will be facing state bred company.   #4 Judge Judith likes to go to the front and should have the early pace advantage today; second off the layoff and running against state bred company should help her chances.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   2  –  4

#2 Tape to Tape looks to be a deserving favorite in today’s sixth race.  This gelding has great early speed and lands top jockey Irad Ortiz.  #4 Souper Success is a tactical presser type and should have a chance if his rivals go too fast and things slow down in front of him.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   3  – 10  –  2

#3 Sovereign of Speed has found a niche level and distance and it just so happens to be the conditions of today’s seventh; the jockey for those better races will be back on board as well.  #10 Rhymes Like Dimes ran second in a similar race going slightly shorter last time out; trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. will add blinkers and stretch him back to the distance of 8Furlongs.  #2 Charming Charlie will be running first off the claim for trainer Joseph Orseno and gets jockey Paco Lopez in the irons.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   8  –  4  –  9

#8 Inflation Adjusted has good versatile speed and should sit a good trip for trainer Michael Maker; the Jockey / Trainer combination of Maker and Gaffalione has been doing well lately.  #4 Experienced has not been to the races in over a year, but this lightly raced 5-year-old has great pedigree for the longer distances and trainer Johnathan Thomas is above average with Turf shippers coming off of long layoffs.  #9 Six Minus is always competitive and can make his own trip with his adaptable speed; second off the layoff for trainer Todd Pletcher ridden by Irad Ortiz.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   9  –  5  –  10

# 9 Tovia showed strong speed in the early part of her debut last time out; although she finished second, she displayed her natural ability and should improve in her second lifetime start.  #5 Beauty Destiny ran a very close second in her debut only losing by a neck, that race was at the same class level as today’s contest and keeps jockey Javier Castellano.  #10 Turn On the Charm was near the lead for the entire portion of her last race until the end unfortunately, today she moves over to the All-Weather surface and cuts back to 5.5Furlongs; gets the services of jockey Irad Ortiz.

Let’s make it happen!!!
