On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Friday(February 10, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   1  –  8  –  4  –  3

#1 Discreet Tune is a speedy six-year-old that returns to the races today for trainer Carlos David.  The angle for his include is the anticipated speed to his inside and the trip that Junior Alvarado should be able to work out.  #8 Uranium moves to the barn of high win percentage trainer Rohan Crichton first off the claim; he fits at this level and is in good form.  #4 Bee by the Sea returned to the races after a layoff last time out, he was bumped twice then showed very little, should rebound to prior form and have a say in the outcome.  #3 Elektronic fits a similar pattern of returning from a break and maybe just needed a race to get the juices flowing.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   7  –  9  –  1

#7 Testa ran a winning race at this same level last time out –  until –  mid-stretch when he weakened late; prior to that he was away from the races for over a year.  Todd Pletcher trainee should be ready second off the layoff.   #9 Papa Jojo has the speed to be contender but needs to get the right trip.  At the tricky distance of 7.5 Furlongs, let’s see if jockey Tyler Gaffalione can help this gelding see it through.  #1 Jerry’s Turn should be aided by the inside post as well as his ability to be near the lead early; jockey Javier Castellano can be a wizard on the turf from time to time; LG!

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   1  –  2

#1 Golden Isle will go to the front and will have the lead early on in this race, if allowed to he could take them gate to wire.  It’s not a given, but,  “So you’re saying there’s a chance”.  #2 David’s Rose will be the logical pick in the race.  He is a solid runner and based on running style should benefit greatly from the projected race pace.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   1  –  7  –  10

#1 Gray’s Fable has faced tougher competition and held his own.  Trainer Brian Lynch and the ownership groups have taken some big swings, but this race is very much within his abilities.  #7 Sky’s Not Falling has good versatile speed and is always competitive on the turf no matter the distance, but does better going longer.  #10 First Empire is returning from a three month rest for trainer Mark Casse.  This four-year-old son of Classic Empire is battle tested and has the potential to go gate to wire.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   8  –  1  –  4

#8 Imposter Syndrome is a well bred son of War Front that will be making his first start for the Maker barn.  In his last two starts he ran at this level and was very competitive, gets the services of jockey Luis Saez today.  #1 Mr. Rhodium is a three-year-old son of Maclean’s Music who gets Lasix for the first time.  His recent bullet workout could be a sign that he is ready to start his winning ways.  #4 Cruzin Man has been away from the races for seven months, in that his lone race, he stopped.  So why are we playing this horse today?  In the first part of that race he ran very fast and could be ready to go today off the layoff; gets Lasix for the first time and jockey Javier Castellano will be aboard.

Let’s make it happen!!!
