On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Friday(February 24, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   1  –  3  –  4

#1 Wind Ninety Nine attempted the turf last time out and was returning from a layoff.  Also drops in class today for trainer Edward Plesa Jr., should put in a solid effort.  #3 Rough Entry will have the early pace advantage and will be the one to catch.  If they allow jockey Irad Ortiz to take the lead and dictate the pace, the race will be for second place.  #4 Boldness will be running second off the layoff for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. and gets the services of Junior Alvarado in the saddle.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:    3  –  6  –  7

#3 Cyclone Ranger is a improving three-year-old son of Hard Spun that will be making his third consecutive start on the turf; he has been very consistent and should be ready to take the next step for trainer Brendan Walsh.  #6 Soupersilverdollar just missed last time out at a similar level and distance.  Will run in blinkers for the first time to day and jockey Irad Ortiz will maintain the mount.  #7 My Favorite Topic has been very competitive in his two career starts showing versatility while doing so; could surprise in a full field like today’s sixth race, at a price.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   1  –  3  –  5

#1 High Yield Kitten won last time out and today steps up slightly in class level but has faced tougher in the past.  He is in good form for trainer Matthew Williams and retains jockey Javier Castellano.  #3 Man On the Moon has been reunited with owner Michael B. Catalano and trainer Robert B Hess Jr. for the second time in his career.  Fresh off a gate to wire victory last time out, this gelded son of Distorted Humor will look to keep the party going for the Hess barn.  #5 Assertiko continues to drop in class levels but has shown that he does have the talent to compete at these levels; second off the claim for trainer Bobby Dibona and the shorter distance, let’s see if today is the day he puts it all back together.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   4  –  5  –  9

#4 Java Buzz returned from a two month rest before his last race and earned a second place finish, narrowly beaten at the wire.  Returns today second off the layoff for trainer Kelly Breen in a similar state bred race, should be tough.  #5 Backchat will be coming from off the pace with a strong late kick, which could prove effective if they go too fast early.  # 9 Freedom Matters drops into the state bred ranks for this contest.  His form lately has not been great but has the ability to win at this level.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   6  –  7  –  8

#6 Mehlek drops in class and will be making her second start for the barn of William Tharrenos.  Has shown speed in different race segments but has not put it all together, yet.  #7 Pasajera won last time out and continues to improve from a speed figure standpoint.  #8 Ready On the Line will attempt to take them gate to wire, as she likes to run on the lead.  She successfully accomplished that goal last time out and will look to repeat for trainer Jose D’Angelo, retains the services of jockey Sonny Leon.

Let’s make it happen!!!
