On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Friday(March 03, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   2  –  4

#2 Ghostly Night  has found her winning ways since switching to the dirt.  She has won her last two and those were at higher levels, and was claimed back in January; dont really comprehend the drop but trainer Rohan Crichton is very good first off the claim.   #4 Rain didn’t run to her ability last time out and there seems to be a good race bad race story within her running lines.  Runs for a new barn today and gets the meet’s top jockey Irad Ortiz in the saddle.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   4  –  6  –  8

#4 Feline  is a very consistent runner who has been so close in nearly all of her nine career starts.  Today she reunites with jockey Jose Ortiz after they ran second at this level last time out.  #6 Cindylouwho should improve after a lackluster effort last time out; she was returning from a long layoff and possesses good early speed.  #8 Run for the Hills  has shown flashes here and there in her previous attempts and will try the turf for the first time.  Trainer Mark Casse, someone who knows a thing or two about turf runners, has given this daughter of Runhappy a year off and will return with jockey Tyler Gaffalione in the irons.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   4  –  5  –  7

Race 7 is a small field comparatively speaking for Gulfstream Park; claimers running at the 6.25k level but should be a competitive race.  I usually don’t like to go this deep in a race like this but wanted to provide the runners that have a chance, in my humble opinion.  #4 Small Reason drops in class for good connections in search of the win.  Has a grinder presser running style that fits well with jockey Luis Saez.  #5 Joe Di Baggio fits at this level and is in good form for trainer Gary Jackson, has not won for the new barn in three attempts but drops in class and that could be what is needed.  #7 Almashriq is an include due to the level that he runs back to, but also the distance.  He is a sustained runner and the seven furlong distance fits his natural running style.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   1  –  3  –  4  –  5

#1 Judge Judith fits the mold as many of the selected runners in this leg.  They have all faced each other last time out in a very close finish; rider change to jockey Jose Ortiz.  #3 Tamarindo just missed last time out after a layoff.  She will face some of the same rivals today and should have something to say about the outcome.  #4 Riveting Spirit won last time out at a similar level and also has the potential to improve off that effort, as today she will be running third of the layoff for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.  #5 Mia Camila ran against many of these same competitors last time out when she was given the lead in a slow-paced race and was beat late, that effort was after a seven months break; anticipated improvement.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   1  –  4  –  5

#1 Sinfiltre has good versatile speed and should be on or near the lead and that has been playing well on the All-Weather throughout the meet; retains the services of jockey Jose Ortiz.  #4 Never Been Wrong was claimed on debut which has to be a positive as the new owners wanted this runner before they saw her run a race.  She ran a very good third, only beaten by less than a length.  #5 Cappy will attempt the All-weather for the first time in a long time for new trainer Anna Meah.  This daughter of Hard Spun has the speed figures to fit with this group and gets jockey Irad Ortiz in the saddle.

Let’s make it happen!!!
