Late Pick 5 Sequence:
Race 7 SELECTIONS: 6 – 5
#5 Six Minus showed good late speed in his debut race. Trained by Todd Pletcher this well bred 3 year-old by English Channel was given a three months rest and returns today moving up to the maiden ranks from maiden claiming. Not a move often seen but shows a vote of confidence from a high win percentage trainer who has ownership stake in this colt. #6 Q F Seventy Five is a well bred 3 year-old by Vancouver owned by West Point Thoroughbreds. Making his second career start today for trainer Cristophe Clement, who is very good with turf runners across the board. On debut he did his best running late after being bumped early-on in the race.
Race 8 SELECTIONS: 3 – 7
#3 Causalistic will be running first off the claim for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. In a recent interview with ACACIA COURTNEY on the IN THE RING PODCAST Joseph explains his mind-set when it comes to claiming horses and we can definitely see that with this runner as he is dropping in class after being very competitive versus tougher. #7 Strong Ending is not in good form for new trainer Paul Kopaj but has run much better on dirt, which is the surface that he returns to for today’s contest. Kopaj runs a very small barn but his numbers are very good, indicating that he puts his runners in good spots to be competitive.
Race 9 SELECTIONS: 6 – 2
#6 Small Talk has been very close to victory in her last two attempts. Today she gets a slight reduction in distance and a change in jockey as Paco Lopez picks up the mount. #2 Jet Speed is making his career debut for top trainer Todd Pletcher. A well bred 3 year-old colt that is by Speighster, he has had a steady stream of workouts since January; jockey Edgard Zayas gets the mount.
Race 10 SELECTIONS: 1 – 6
#1 Don’t Get Khozy looks to be a deserving morning line favorite as this will be her third race at this level and distance not finishing worse than a close third. She does her best running late but can be adaptable based on the pace in front of her. #6 Our Fantasy returns to the races after a 57 day rest for trainer Kathleen O’Connell. After switching over to the dirt, she is in good form and has won her last two races; Joe Bravo will be in the irons.
Race 11 SELECTIONS: 6 – 1 – 9
#6 Twenty Four Seven has the highest speed rating for the field and is in good form for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Always competitive this 8 year-old veteran still has got some gas in the tank and should be in contention again today. #1 Dover Cliffs has shown good natural early speed and today is cutting back in distance. Trained by Danner Kelsey this 7 year-old returns to Gulfstream Park where speed on the turf can be hard to catch if uncontested early on. #9 Tusk is a tough one to figure out but wanted to give a mention. Last year this time he was in great form winning the G3 Tropical Turf, but so far in 2021 he has not been the same. At this class level he should have the potential to rebound.
