On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Saturday(February 04, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   7  –  1

#7 Shesterkin is a very well bred son of Violence that won his debut professionally and earned a solid speed rating for top connections.   #1 Tapit Trice ships in for trainer Todd Pletcher for his third career start today.  Another youngster with strong pedigree ties that has earned very good speed ratings.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   1  –  5

#1 Candidate has great speed and is not afraid to use it.  He is three for three since moving over to the turf and continues to improve after each and every race.  Versatile speed but likes to be on or near the lead and with the inside draw should be able to dictate his wishes from a pace perspective.  #5 Lights of Broadway is a colt that has also shown some stark improvement since moving over to the grass.  This Mark Casse trainee has been brought along slowly and could have turned the corner, may provide value in a tough race with good competition.

Race 10 SELECTIONS:   3  –  8  –  6

#3 Atomically was kicking behind and taking names prior to her run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.  Today marks her return to the races, she displayed the speed to compete with these fillies today in the past, if she progresses, she wins.   #8 Red Carpet Ready is unbeaten in her career and will attempt to make it three in a row today.  Shipps in from Kentucky for trainer Rusty Arnold II and has good early speed, jockey Luis Saez will be in the irons.  #6 Lynx is making her second start off the layoff for trainer Carlos David.  This Arindel home-bred running lines are the definition of competitive, never off the board in her five prior attempts she will give it her all today.

Race 11 SELECTIONS:   7  –  2  –  8

#7 Cairo Consort will be running second off the layoff for trainer Todd Pletcher, after winning her last race.   She has shown the ability to run both early and come from off the pace and will be a tough one to beat in this spot.  Whisper (But we will try.)  #2 Padma has never run on the turf but has a strong pressing style that would be very advantageous if she does.  A Godolphin filly trained by William Mott, ridden by Junior Alvarado is worth consideration.  #8 Heavenly Sunday is a filly sired by Candy Ride that is trained by Brad Cox.  She is undefeated in two career starts but has the potential to be an overlooked runner in a competitive race.

Race 12 SELECTIONS:   1  –  4

#1 Lord Miles is a son of Curlin, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr.  In his last race the Mucho Macho Man, he was caught further back than he would like to be for his running style; he made a daring run in the end and was only beaten by less than a length.  #4 Cyclone Mischief steps up in class for today’s race but has good tactical speed.  This son of Into Mischief likes to be on or near the lead but will have to take a backseat to a rival in this spot, which should allow him to sit close and save the best for the stretch.

Let’s make it happen!!!
