On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Saturday(February 11, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   3  –  6

#3 Therapist is the class of the field.  If, he can close on the synthetic like he can on the turf, everyone else will be running for underneath placing.  #6 Speedy Hans is a hard trying son of Constitution that has been very consistent and although he is stepping up in class into the allowance ranks, he has the ability to compete.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   1  –  3  –  4

#1 Webslinger has good versatile speed and should fit well against his competition today, last time out the ownership group took their shot at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and he did very little running; should improve off the layoff for trainer Mark Casse.  #3 Sendero last race was nothing to write home about but he was chasing a hot pace and had to steady in the lane, prior to that effort he had always been in contention.  Today this Todd Pletcher trainee should be aided by the stretch out in distance.  #4 Sbagliato won impressively on debut for trainer Christophe Clement.  Clement is not known as a trainer that has the youngsters primed to be fast early on, so we can assume this chef Bobby Flay homebred will be ready to cook today.

Race 10 SELECTIONS:  3  –  6

#3 Arthur’s Ride has not been to the races since the summer when he ran two races as a two-year-old finishing a solid second in both.  Trainer Bill Mott gives this son of Tapit Lasix for the first time and his workout tab looks impressive.  #6 Case almost broke his maiden at first asking for trainer Jonathan Thomas and earn a good speed figure doing so; today he gets Lasix and gets the services of Javier Castellano.

Race 11 SELECTIONS:  3  –  4  –  5

#3 Belgrano is a young at heart nine-year-old that can still run fast.  He is stepping up in class for trainer Frank Russo but he is in great form and his numbers fall right in line with the competition.  #4 Carotari flattened out late in the race last time out, but that was a after a four month layoff, since that race trainer Brian Lynch has been putting in weekly workouts.  #5 Yes I Am Free will be running second off the claim for trainer Laura Cazares; he has good speed away from the gate and can press effectively.

Race 12 SELECTIONS:  11  –  3  –  8  –  9

# 11 Telephone Talker drops in class today for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.  This son of Wicked Strong will have to work out a trip from the outside post position, but he has a versatile running style.   #3 Marisa’s Mission has good initial speed and that should aid jockey Miguel Vasquez in securing early position, which is critical in a full field like we have today; third off the layoff for trainer Martin Drexler.  #8 Kitten’s Spa just missed in a similar race last time out, and this will be his second attempt at this level; Paco Lopez will be in the irons so we can anticipate a forward positioning early.   #9 Sand Dancer drops in class today and although his final finishing positions may not show it, he has been in contention in several prior races.

Let’s make it happen!!!
