On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Wednesday (January 05, 2022) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS :   9 – 6 – 2

#9 Sigrun Fast Boy is making his second start off the layoff for owner – trainer Steven Dwoskin.  He is only making his sixth lifetime start but has progressed from a speed figure perspective in his last three outings.  #6 Lonesome Fugitive will more than likely be your post time favorite based on his connections and the level of races that he was competing in for the past year; should be closing late and have something to contribute to the finish.  #2 Regal Speaker has some of the best closing fractions in the field and today will be reunited with jockey Luis Saez; last time he was aboard they were victorious.

Race 6 SELECTION:   6

#6 Miss Mamba is making her 2nd start for trainer Antonio Sano after running solid times for this class level.  Today she will be running an additional 3F more than last time and the added distance should be to her liking.

Race 7 SELECTIONS :   5 – 7

#5 Officer Country should be the benefactor of lots of early speed to his inside.  Last time out at this same level he was bumped at the start and closed rapidly.  #7 Zamfr will be eligible to improve in his second start since his layoff, and his return was not a bad one at all.

Race 8 SELECTIONS :   7 –  6

#7 Amazing Trip is undefeated in her two lifetimes starts earning solid speed figures in both.  Today she steps down in class and gets Lasix for the first time.  #6 Rapturous is 2 for 3 at Gulfstream; she has run sound pace figures in all three attempts.  Her only blemish was last time out when she went to the lead a little too soon against a slow pace and was caught late; also gets Lasix for the first time.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   9 – 5

#9 Artemus Citylimits has tremendous early turn of foot and is cutting back in distance from 6F to 5F.  Pair that with a jockey in Emisael Jaramillo, who loves to be in position early, this Michael Maker trained gelding looks to be the one to beat.  #5 The Virginian is a very consistent, hard trying 5-year-old trained by Steve Klesaris; Klesaris’s barn has gotten off to a great start for the meet.  Second start off the layoff with jockey Javier Castellano in the irons, this one should be in contention.
