On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Wednesday(February 01, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   9  –  7  –  10

#9 Lady Hamilton will step up in class after winning last time out; that maiden victory was off a layoff and was her first time going longer.  Today she will run on Lasix again and retains the services of jockey Edgard Zayas.  #7 Angelas Party Girl is another improving filly who should run well after running second off the layoff for trainer Jorge Duarte Jr.  Last time out at this level she finished with interest after being bumped early on.  #10 Crimson Princess was just beaten last time at this level as she was finishing up strong and ran out of real estate; today she gets an additional furlong to navigate and that should help.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   3  –  4

#3 No Man Left Behind returns to the surface and class level where he seems more competitive, has versatile speed and should be able to sit off the speed and have a chance to make first run at the leaders.  #4 Souper Legacy has excellent early speed and is dropping in class today; unable to sustain that speed at higher levels and running second off the layoff this gelding should be competitive in this spot.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   3   –  2

#3  Expect More ran a strong race last time out.  He was near the lead in a contested second quarter and tired late and was placed second due to disqualification.  Seems to be a strong win candidate and a deserving morning line favorite.

#2 Tshiebwe This well-bred son of Race Day will be making his third lifetime start after two just OK performances, today he will be running first time for the Pletcher barn.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   5  –  6

#5 Ball Gown drops in class today for trainer Dale Romans and will be running second off the layoff and second off the claim, should be in contention for the win.  #6 Grandma’s Pudding will be dropping in class and also will be attempting the turf for the first time.  Although she has never run on turf, she has shown the ability to close well, could provide value to a race where there is not a statistical standout.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   1  –  2

#1 Jrue Breeze will need to continue to improve as he steps up in class but has great early speed and gets the services of Jockey Jose Ortiz. #2 Big and Classy could be a major factor here, running first off a five-month layoff for trainer David Fawkes, jockey Tyler Gaffalione will be in the irons.

Let’s make it happen!!!
