On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Wednesday(March 01, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5 sequence:

Race 4 SELECTIONS:   1  –  5  –  7

#1 Jerry’s Turn will return to the sprint distance of 5Furlongs after a series of attempts going longer.  He is always competitive regardless of surface and or distance; retains the services of Javier Castellano.  #5 Allen Diggs earned a good speed rating last time out and will attempt to sprint on the All-Weather today.  He has good early speed and will be making his second start for trainer William Tharrenos.  #7 Awesome Crusader will be returning from a two months rest and hoping that would have cured his seconditous, rider change to Tyler Gaffalione.

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   1  –  2  –  7

#1 Botita will step up in class after being claimed and will now be trained by Edgar Bayeh.  Was in tight early but stayed on to finish second; rider change to Javier Castellano.  #2 Cajun Fantasy will make her return to the races after a two month layoff for trainer Michael Yates and will be getting Lasix for the first time.  #7 Trotting Gear is a first time starter who is sired by Gervin, who’s progeny are doing well on debut.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   3  –  9  –  10

#3 Arella Star returns to the distance that she broke her maiden at after running at higher levels and not doing so well; is unproven on the grass but has speed and gets Luis Saez in the saddle.  #9 Sassy Nature has very good early speed and if she takes to the grass will be in contention throughout.  #10 Sure Can has turned the page since turning 3-years-old and moving to the turf.  She has been knocking at the door and should be close again today.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   1  –  4  –  6

#1 Singing the Oldies has been very competitive in all her four previous starts which all have been around this same level and distance; today she makes her first start for new owner trainer Steve Klesaris.  #4 Lady Ocean will be making her first start since December after being given a two months rest.  She has good early speed and will be getting Lasix for the first time.  #5 Girl Bye ran a solid race last time out at this level, that race was her first off the layoff; retains the services of top jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   5  –  10

In this leg we will be playing against the favorite #1 Pillbox, who is a strong logical choice and will be on the majority of tickets, but we are looking to make this pick 5 pricey-spicey.  In doing so we are going to lean on the first time starters in race 8.  #5 Eskimo Street has fast morning works and runs for a solid trainer jockey combination.  #10 Total Bliss also has a strong workout pattern and will be making her debut for owner-trainer Blake Kelly.

Let’s make it happen!!!
