On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Wednesday(March 09, 2022) – John Pinder

Early Pick 5 sequence:

Race 1 SELECTIONS:   2 – 1

#2 Cajun Mandate is a proven commodity at this level, surface and distance.  This colt has always shown good early speed but since moving to the barn of trainer Jose D’Angelo and attempting the All-Weather surface he has taken it to another level.  #1 Beastfromtheeast is running for the first time for new trainer Gustavo Delgado.  He has posted good opening fractions and could carry the speed better on the surface that he is trying for the first time.

Race 2 SELECTIONS:   4 – 6 – 7

#4 Deep State has come close in this last two attempts at this level.  Those races were scheduled for the turf but were taken off. He has a solid trainer in Brian Lynch and keeps jockey Junior Alvarado abord for a second time.  #6 Sir Terre although stepping up in class, this 5-year-old gelding showed a big jump in speed figure rating after making his first trip on the turf.  If he can continue to improve, he could have a shot at a price.  #7 Awesome Remix is a 4-year-old homebred for Sam-son Farm that is making his debut for trainer Simon C. Stuart.  This gelding has been working out since last fall and has recently started to put up multiple bullets on the workout tab.

Race 3 SELECTIONS:   7 – 6 – 4

#7 Outshine has been claimed in his last three races, two of the three he won.  This son of Malibu Moon is in great form and gets jockey Jose Ortiz.  #6 Embrace My Uncle has been on the improve since moving over to trainer Michael P. De Paulo.  He won two races back on the Gulfstream Park All-Weather surface, and last time just missed in the slop on the dirt; keeps the services of jockey Javier Castellano for a third straight race.  #4 Winning Factor could be a factor in today’s third race.  He has a poor win percentage but is always competitive.  He has shown the ability to be forwardly placed and at times be tactical; the fact that he is trying the All-Weather for the first time also makes him a include.

Race 4 SELECTIONS:   2 – 5 – 9

#2 Mabee Luckynwild has lots of factors that make her a logical favorite in today’s fourth race.  She is running for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. for the first time, dropping in class, and getting Lasix for the first time.  After breaking her maiden at first asking she didn’t continue that winning progression but you know that the talent is there.  Now, she drops to a claiming level where she should be very competitive returning from a two month layoff.  #5 Evil of Course is making her second lifetime start after winning on debut.  She moves to a new barn after the claim and keeps jockey Emisael Jaramillo.  #9 Awesome Apeal should have a chance as she returns to the dirt after throwing in the towel last time on the All-Weather. She had shown good speed against tougher in her 2-year-old campaign; today she runs for new trainer Carlos Perez.

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   3 – 1 – 8

#3 Sunset Provision has been knocking on the door and this his third lifetime start could be the time that he kicks it down.  Jose Ortiz stays aboard for trainer Joseph Orseno.  #1 Capture the Time showed new promise after running a big speed figure when sprinting on the turf last time out.  If last time out was not an aberration, then this gelding should be in contention.  #8 Philipsburg ran at this level on debut last time out and finished a close second, that was on the All-Weather.  Trainer Wesley Ward is strong with youngsters and checks the boxes with today’s race conditions, first time on grass and second career race.
