As we approach the next jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown and a loaded summer of stakes racing, In The Money Media’s Peter Thomas Fornatale (PTF) looks to grab all of the data he can from this year’s Kentucky Derby to get a better understanding of who might be the strongest coming out of the race and who may have had an easier time in the Run for the Roses.
PTF sits with Adam Mills from Total Performance Data to break down the metrics from this year’s running of the Kentucky Derby! They analyze horses’ speed through the race, stride length and more to figure out which horses put in strong performances on the First Saturday in May.
This information will go a long way since Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo, trained by the first woman to win the Derby Cherie DeVaux, is currently considering a start in the Preakness Stakes. Many of the other horses from the Kentucky Derby will reemerge later in the summer with Saratoga right around the corner, so the data broken down in this video also gives a sense of who could be a major contender for Belmont Stakes 2026, the third leg of the Triple Crown, or even other major races on the year like the Jim Dandy and the mid-summer Derby, the Travers Stakes at Saratoga.
