PTF’s Santa Anita Sunday Stakes Tips and Analysis

SUNDAY R7 Zenyatta

#5 DESERT DAWN is a cool mare I’ve always liked. Hard trying AZ bred sees massive class relief in this spot with Adare Manor retired and Scylla nowhere to be seen in the entries. Seemed like ground loss really mattered and that the track was tilted to speed on Pac Classic day; she was far back and wide.

Looking at a pace map here, she might be able to be closer than usual and she has a great late kick. Flying Connection beat her last time but barely, and FC spent time on that good rail and DD is second off the layoff here, a situation from which she’s improved a lot in the past.

Might do a small backup line with #2 Flying Connection but mostly I’ll run my money through Desert Dawn.

Race 9 SA Sprint Championship

I’ll try to get out with two horses that have a very similar profile: #5 STRAIGHT NO CHASER and #1 FORT BRAGG: both are coming off of poor races followed by long layoffs but have old races that suggest they could be major divisional players.

We’ll start with Bragg. Baffert trainee was good enough to ship across the country and win last year. Found this race too tough but that was one salty renewal with Dr. Schivel and Speed Boat Beach in there. Been working fast for his return to the races.

Chaser broke through at the graded level across the country as well, putting up an eye popping fig in Maryland. The layoff is a big question mark but that last bullet 5F work signals readiness.
