My Top 3 Picks:

#7 Consumer Spending – Flavien Prat/Chad Brown

  • Consumer Spending gets Prat back in the irons after not having Prat in her last two starts, granted both wins, but I still prefer Prat over Victor Carrasco and Manuel Franco. Consumer Spending was green in debut and then came back to win on wet turf and then win a small non restricted stakes race at Laurel. I think personally that last race was very maturing for her. She had to face some trouble and was ridden out to the wire, showing her to not get comfortable late and to dig in to the wire. She should be even more experienced and to point to this spot out of a $150k Stake at Laurel, shows to me that Chad Brown is confident in this horses ability moving forward. Prat returning also shows just how much Chad likes this horse. Prat and Chad have been profitable so far this year and could be again in this spot.

#13 Mise En Scene – Oisin Murphy/ James Ferguson

  • Mise En Scene is probably my favorite of the European shippers in this bunch. This horse won impressively in debut back in July. Then came back 2nd time out and win a Group 3 race off of a 2 month layoff. The connections then jumped her up to group 1 competition in only her 3rd start. She finished 4th after being somewhat forwardly placed last time out and just not being good enough that day. Today Oisin Murphy who has ridden this filly in her two wins, ships to America with the horse. The only reason this horse didn’t hit the top 3 in her previous start is due to Oisin Murphy being replaced last minute due to a failed breathalyzer test, before the races. I think all things considered she might be in a really good spot here with the ideal jockey this time.

#5 Bubble Rock – Irad Ortiz Jr./ Brad Cox

  • Bubble Rock is an interesting horse in this field. A horse normally ridden by Jose Ortiz, attracts Irad Ortiz Jr today as Jose Ortiz goes to the Clement entry. Brad Cox has been on fire this year as usual and has placed this horse very well throughout her young career. Irad Ortiz Jr. Shows up tenfold on these type of days with these types of races. I think she is also coming into this race in good form and possibly sitting on a bigger effort than she previously has had. This is the first time she will be shipping out of New York but the warm weather should suit her and she has been training well.
