Late Pick 5
Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.
Race 5 SELECTIONS: 5
#5 Lucky Curlin will be making his second start off the layoff, first off the claim for trainer Sandino Hernandez Jr. This 8 year old gelding needed a race last time out as he dropped to the claiming level on a non preferred surface; today he will get back to the turf and gets the services of Irad Ortiz.
Race 6 SELECTIONS: 6 – 7 – 4
# 6 Marty’s Gal ran a strong debut here at Gulfstream Park at the end of November, after running a fast – slow – fast- race flow. She seems to have talent just needs to put it all together. #7 Frida is a well bred filly that was sired by City of Light. She just missed on debut but that was seven months ago; running for strong connections and getting Lasix for the first time. #4 Mean to Me is dropping in class after losing as the favorite last time out; she ships in from Woodbine for strong connections.
Race 7 SELECTIONS: 2 – 1 – 7 – 6 – 9
Race 7 is a tough race to decipher and we will go 5 deep on the ticket.
#2 Classic Ballad is returning to a sprint distance for strong connections, will also be running second off the layoff. #1 Rocky Seas ran a very close second last time out at this level, keeps the services of jockey Renzo Rojas. #7 Neom City did not care for the route attempt and the slow pace last time out, drops in class today. #6 Taking It All has excellent early speed and should be on the lead at the first call, if not pressured or she gets bold and opens up, she has a puncher’s chance. #9 Bigbouquetofroses has found ways to get in her own way as a 3 year old but with a little maturity and focus she could be a factor.
Race 8 SELECTIONS: 4 – 5
#4 Tidal Forces has produced solid but non winning speed figures in all of his prior attempts; today he drops in class and gets the meet’s leading rider, Irad Ortiz. #5 K. C. Chief is also getting some class relief today and will be running second off the layoff; also is reunited with jockey Edgar Perez who won four consecutive races early this year in and around this level.
Race 9 SELECTIONS: 5 – 6 – 3
# 5 Deadpan last race was a little flat and he hopped in the air at the start. Those things could happen after a long layoff, should improve off of that effort. #6 Air Invasion has been very competitive at the sometimes tricky distance of 7.5 Furlongs and will be running second off the layoff, retains the services of jockey Joel Rosario. # 3 Causin’ Mayhem will also be dropping in class; plus making his first start for the new barn of Drexler Martin.
Today’s ticket .50 base (pre scratches) : 5 / 4,6,7 / 1,2,6,7,9 / 4,5 / 3,5,6 cost: $45
