Gulfstream Park – Late Pick 5 – Saturday(March 01, 2025) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5

Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.

Race 10 SELECTIONS:   8 – 5 – 4

#8 La Mehana is an ultra competitive mare who specializes in the longer turf races.  In three of her last four races, all near today’s class level,  she has won or lost by the slimmest of margins.  #5 Beach Bomb has progressed in all her stateside efforts.  Her last attempt was in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf where she finished only 3 lengths back; with a conditioner like Graham Motion we expect her to continue to improve.  #4 Immensitude ships in from New York to give trainer Bill Mott an opportunity at another graded stakes win. She is a French bred mare that can press the pace effectively regardless of the speed in front of her.

Race 11  SELECTIONS:   3  – 1

#3 Encino is a Nyquist colt that has won four in a row.  He has won in multiple pace scenarios on and off the dirt, a must include.   #1 Mindframe has not made a start since July of last year, but within a five month span he competed four times including just missing in the Belmont and Haskell.

Race 12 SELECTIONS:   1 – 8 – 2

#1 Tax Implications has taken her A game on the road all over the U.S. and that should be no different today.  She comes in off a three month freshening for one of the best turf trainers, Chad Brown; Tyler Gaffalione picks up the mount.  #8 In Our Time possesses great early pace and will look to take the field from gate to wire.  She will be aided by shortening up from a mile and sixteenth to one mile.  #2  See You Around should get a good trip being drawn on the inside she has good versatile speed and will be reunited with jockey Irad Ortiz.

Race 13 SELECTIONS:   6 – 3

#6 River Thames looks to be the one to beat in the prep for the Florida Derby.  He was unraced as a two year old and has won both prior starts going away by open lengths; he is well bred and has great tactical speed.  Not anything sexy from a wagering perspective and could be a single in the sequence if need be.   #3 Burnham Square is the certified closer in the race and will have a shot to be effective based on the number of sprinters and front runners that are signed up for this year’s Grade 2 Fountain of Youth.

Race 14 SELECTIONS:   8 – 12 – 9

#8 Sugoi is a long distance specialist who is in good form for trainer Michael Maker.  In a competitive contest like today’s finale,  he has the stamina to lead or sit close off and pull away late.  #12 Dashman has never faced Grade 2 level of competition, but he excels at the longer distances and should be involved in the outcome of this one.  #9 Grand Sonata has some of the top speed ratings for the longer races on turf, jockey change to Irad Ortiz.

Today’s ticket .50 base (pre scratches) : 4,5,8/ 1,3/ 1,2,8 / 3,6 / 8,9,12 cost: $54
