Gulfstream Park – Late Pick 5 – Sunday(January 04, 2026) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5

Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   7 – 1 – 5

#7 Uncle John will have the pace advantage in today’s sixth race and will deploy his ‘come and catch me’ strategy once again. The All-Weather surface has been kind to those who can get to the front.  #1 Fly the W is still competing as a newly turned 10-year-old. He does well at Gulfstream Park and is dropping in class and he returns from Woodbine for trainer Martin Drexler.  #5 Longbranch Lou has been very consistent in and around this level and will have the opportunity to stalk and pounce, jockey Miguel Vasquez maintains the mount.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   3 – 6 – 1

#3 Miss Complicated gets some class relief today, she held her own in all three prior starts including a Graded Stake at Churchill. She was given a three-month rest and should return strong off that layoff, her workout tab gives positive vibes.  #6 Paradise is a Brad Cox trainee that ran very well last time out on debut and returns to the races and now to a route of ground. She is a daughter of Gun Runner and should not have a problem with the mile distance.  #1 Song of Sarah is a well-bred first-time starter.  She is the daughter of the super sire Curlin and her dam Embur’s Song has produced 4 winners from 6 starters.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   7 – 1 – 10 – 6

#7 Spiced Up is a rare find as he is an effective closer while sprinting.  He has never ran at Gulfstream Park before but is dropping in class and maintains the services of the jockey who knows him very well, Junior Alvarado.   #1 Speed Figures will go to the front and not look back. This five-year-old gelding has blazing speed from the gate, gets jockey Tyler Gaffalione in the irons.  #10 Twisted Filigree has good versatility and should get a good outside trip based on post position and jockey John Velazquez’s skillset.  #6 Xy Speed fits well at this level and will look to get back to the winner’s circle after narrowly missing his last time out; another ten-year-old runner that is still doing it and doing it well.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   4

#4 Noble J will be the fulcrum from which we leverage our opinion.  He broke his maiden last time out in impressive fashion and will be running second off the layoff for trainer David Fawkes.

Race 10 SELECTIONS:    9 – 8 – 5

#9 Cat Island has been away from the races for over eight months, during that time she was moved to the barn of trainer George Weaver. She gets Lasix and will be trying the grass for the first time.  # 8 Preclude is an Ireland bred filly who will be making her racing debut for trainer Todd Pletcher.  #5 Mohawk Moon is a well-bred first-time starter, daughter of Candy Ride for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Today’s ticket .50 base (post scratches) : 1,5,7 / 1,3,6 / 1,6,7,10 / 4 / 5,8,9   cost: $54
