Late Pick 5
Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.
Race 5 SELECTIONS: 5 – 2
#5 Roar of the Beast has run well in portions of his races and will look to put it all together as he drops in class and gets Lasix for the first time. #2 Bad Obsession is a first time starter who is well bred for distance, his Dam has produced 5 winners out 7 starters.
Race 6 SELECTIONS: 2
#2 Clearly Copper is making a BIG drop in class as she ships in from Tampa Bay Downs. She has run at similar class levels at Gulfstream Park over the summer, winning both of her attempts on the All-Weather.
Race 7 SELECTIONS: 3 – 9
#9 Dove in Charge ran a solid race last time out at this level and distance, she was rated on a fast pace and wasn’t able to get to them in the end; retains Irad Ortiz in the irons. #3 Madness will be running second off the claim for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.; last time going a distance of 7Furlongs she won by 6 lengths.
Race 8 SELECTIONS: 1 – 7
#1 Tuscan Gold has not been last seen since last year’s Preakness but his workouts have been fast and consistent for the months of November and December. # 7 Timeout could come from off the pace to be a factor with a little bit of form reversal.
Race 9 SELECTIONS: 3 – 6 – 2
#3 Strand of Gold won a similar race at this level last time out with jockey Irad Ortiz; Ortiz retains the mount, mare seems like the one to beat. #6 Musical Romance scored a game second place finish last time out at this same level, that effort was her first race back after a long layoff. #2 Goodbetterbest will need some pace to run at to be most effective, but she should have an opportunity to get up late.
