Gulfstream Park – Late Pick 5 – Wednesday(January 01, 2025) – John Pinder

Happy New Year Horseplayers!

Late Pick 5

Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   9

#9 Capture the Lion will start off our new year with a familiar combination of jockey Irad Ortiz in the irons and trainer Mark Casse on the turf.  This gelded runner returns to the surface he is better at and should benefit from the outside post position.

Race 7  SELECTIONS:   2

#2 Lights of Broadway will be our second single of the sequence, as this gelding has the best early speed and is dropping in class for very solid connections.

Race 8  SELECTIONS:   4 – 7 – 1

#4 Paradise City will make her fourth career start for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. and gets Irad Ortiz in the saddle; she recorded a 4 Furlong workout last week, best time out of fifty two.  #7 Sweet Note has been good in her first two starts and gets blinkers today for the first time, she recorded a bullet workout last week at 3 Furlongs.  #1 Five G continues to improve with each start and has been training very well; gets John Velazquez in the irons.

Race 9  SELECTIONS:   4 – 1 – 2 – 7

#4 Mi Bago was able to carry his speed gate to wire last time out, but has also shown the ability to rate; keeps jockey Edwin Gonzales.  #1 Bucaro was very much a contender last time out when he was unable to work out the winning trip.  #2 Dream On has tremendous early speed and is dropping in class after his last two attempts were grade ones.  #7 Hit That Review continues to improve after each start and has good versatile speed that should carry the added distance.

Race 10 SELECTIONS:   5 – 10 – 8 – 3

#5 Stone Cold Flex gets some class relief today and will get Lasix for the first time; his prior races on the All-Weather are solid.  #10 Always True will be making his first start for the new barn and gets Lasix for the first time; his last workout was very good.  #8 Flag Officer also gets Lasix for the first time and will drop in class, Edward Zayas picks up the mount.  #3 Skull Honor is running first off the claim for trainer Jose D’Angelo; this A.P. Honor colt, like most in this race, is getting Lasix for the first time.

Today’s ticket .50 base (pre scratches) : 9/ 2/ 1,4,7 / 1,2,4,7 / 3,5,8,10 cost: $24
