The Spa is dark today — but the horses are still running plenty of places, and we’ve got you covered at every one of them.
Saratoga’s Rained Out. Racing Continues Apace.
Wednesday’s eight-race card at Saratoga has been canceled after more than four inches of rain fell overnight, with two or more inches forecast through the day and a National Weather Service flood watch in effect for the Capital Region until 9 p.m. NYRA first moved the four turf races to the main track before scrapping the program entirely; Aqueduct is closed for simulcasting as well. The Curlin Stakes for 3-year-olds has been pushed to Sunday, and live racing at the Spa is set to resume Thursday with a nine-race card.
A dark day at Saratoga doesn’t mean a dark day at ITM. There’s live racing coast to coast and across the pond today, and we’re on all of it. Here’s where to point your attention.
Playable Today: the Gallop Out Goes to Indy
Ryan Anderson welcomes Mikee P. to the Gallop Out for a look at the $5 Late Double at Horseshoe Indianapolis — Races 8 and 9, at a friendly 15% takeout. A tidy midweek target while the Northeast dries out. Get their picks →
Also on the Board: Presque Isle
Chance Rains is back with an eight-race Presque Isle Downs card (first post 3:30 p.m. ET), looking to bounce back after a few tough beats. The meet’s jockey race is worth a watch: Gaddiel Martinez reclaimed the lead from Antonio Gallardo with another three-win day on Tuesday. Read the card →
Get a Jump on Thursday: Del Mar
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Dean Keppler already has his Del Mar Thursday card up for anyone who likes to do their homework early. His best bet is Stay in Line (GB) in Race 2, a multiple winner over the track and distance making her first start off the Papaprodromou claim. See the card →
The Weekend’s Still On: Saturday’s Contest
The rain won’t touch the weekend’s main event. Our partners at NYRA Bets have brought their contest program roaring back this Saturday, Aug. 1, with the Jim Dandy Challenge at Saratoga — and, for the first time in a couple of years, National Horseplayers Championship seats are back in the mix, alongside a seeded Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge seat. PTF, John Gaspar, and NYRA Bets’ new contest specialist Jackson Muniz walk through the contest and handicap Saturday’s Saratoga card.
For the full rundown on how it works, what’s on the line, and the low-cost feeders that get you in the door, read our story on the rejuvenated program. NHC Seats Are Back →
