Race 3:

Although HERECOMESTHECPTN (2/1 ML) performed below market expectations when finishing fourth on debut in a MSW at Delaware last month, he can be excused for that defeat as he was not only conceding experience to all but one of his rivals, but he also set the pace over a closer-biased racetrack. Dropping in class today, he appears an obvious contender going out for a trainer who is 4-for-7 (57%; $2.89 ROI) with second-time starters moving from MSW to MCL. CONCHO (8/1 ML), listed as a vet scratch on October 15, also deserves consideration following a wide-trip fourth when sprinting on debut that pointed towards him very much being best at a route of ground.

Race 6:

With just a 16 1/2-length defeat and a measly Beyer of 6 to his name, DON’T TELL SUSAN (10/1 ML) certainly doesn’t jump off the page as a logical contender in today’s sixth. However, when taking into consideration his turf-laden pedigree, sprinting 6 furlongs on the dirt certainly wouldn’t be his best game. The fact that he fluffed the start, then didn’t appear to appreciate the kickback early, was running against a strong speed bias, and was not persevered with in the final furlong, exacerbating the margin of defeat, essentially allows us to draw a line through that debut effort. He took money leading into that first start, indicating he’d shown some form of promise in his morning work, and with Capuano hitting 19% ($2.54 ROI) when moving horses from dirt to turf, any amount of improvement seems possible. In a race of this nature, at a fair price, he could be worth including on some tickets in the opening leg of the Value Late Pick-5.

Race 7:

Following an excusable defeat on debut where she set a hot, pressured pace in front over a closer-biased track at Delaware, CAN AM WINNER (3/1 ML) stepped forward nicely to shed her maiden tag at the second time of asking when last seen. The Ned Allard trainee caught the eye with the way in which she strode clear of her rivals with good energy and grit, despite having remained on her left lead, likely through greenness. She’s now found a winnable-looking spot to follow up making her first start against winners, and with seemingly more to come, she has to be taken seriously for a trainer who hits at 26% with last-out maiden winners (9-for-34; $6.40 ROI).

Race 8:

DREAM OVERTURE (9/5 ML) has really put things together well this summer, breaking her maiden at Colonial in July before going on to score twice more in her most recent two starts. While true that she did receive an excellent pace setup when last seen closing from off the pace, the pace forecast for today’s eighth points towards a similar scenario playing out, and the visual impression she left last time – striding clear with good energy late – hints at potentially more to come from her.
