AQUEDUCT – 1/13/2024

RACE 1: 6-1-5=4

#6 HAVE YOU HEARD is the one to beat off a narrow miss at 9/2 last time out and now adds Lasix for trainer Bruce Brown.  This colt has improved with each passing start and the addition of Lasix will only help.  The weight break he gets once gain is a good thing.

RACE 2: 7-1A-3-2

#7 BAYOU SPIRIT enters off a win against lesser for trainer Linda Rice and moves up in class.  He draws well on the outside and chased a hot pace in his last outing before pulling clear late.  The way Rice has gone with these types is encouraging as they just seem to keep winning.

RACE 3: 1-2-5-8

#1 SHELLY is the one to beat back on dirt for Chad Brown after a good effort two back against MSW foes in an off the turfer.  This is a good spot class-wise and she should get some pace to run at late in the game.  Anything close to her lone dirt start from a speed figure perspective will wallop this bunch.

RACE 4: 8-3-5-2

Now that the public has given up on #8 QUIET WISDOM it might be time to jump aboard. He’s been vanquished as the favorite in 3 straight outings but now draws favorably on the outside to stalk the pace and pounce late.  The price will be fair and the addition of Lasix is a good thing as well.

RACE 5: 9-4-5-6

#9 PROVEN HOPE enters off a win against lesser and now takes a realistic class jump.  He has enough tactical speed to be involved from the start and retains the pilot who was aboard last time out.  The paceless nature of this affair draws you to this son of Street Boss who will be within range from the start.

RACE 6: 2-3-4-1

#2 SHIMMERING ALLURE is a late runner who was wide last time out on a day when the rail was gold.  This Kenny McPeek trainee should be closer early today given the small field and the likelihood of a slow pace.  She is a deserving favorite, but you’re going to have to take south of even money when all is said and done.

RACE 7: 3-9-2-1

#3 TEN CENT TOWN goes first off a claim by trainer Rick Dutrow, Jr. after three starts for Gary Sciacca.  This prolific barn has already amassed a good record with horses off a claim and the race this colt ran last time out was better than it looks on paper.  He’s a serious candidate to make a stretch bid in here.

RACE 8: 11-5-4-6

#11 WHITTINGTON PARK is a late runner who’ll be helped by what should be a hot pace in this affair.  He has been at his best on this oval and should be a good price given the competitive nature of this field.  He was hardly disgraced in his last outing and fits nicely in this spot.

RACE 9: 4-2-5-8

#4 THE BIG TORPEDO is the one to beat on the stretchout to a mile as he figures to be the main speed.  The race he ran last time out was easily good enough to make him a heavy favorite today and the addition of Lasix only helps his chances.
