Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Analysis – Friday, April 23

BELMONT – 4/23/2021

RACE 1: 5-3-4

#5 DREAM FLY gets the nod having the advantage of a prior start for a barn that excels with juveniles.  She should benefit from having that race behind her and figures to be a very heavy favorite here.

RACE 2: 9-2-1

The turf pedigree of #9 CLEVER FELLOW is hardly overwhelming, but his dam is a full sister of graded stake placed turfer Summer Luck. He has shown ability in three prior dirt starts and has an ideal outside post.

RACE 3: 1-5-3

#1 MISS BRAZIL feels like a Grade I caliber 3Yo filly in this crop and will use this engagement as a prep for the Acorn on June 5.  She is getting Lasix for the first time and should be involved from the start, even on the cutback in distance.

RACE 4: 8-7-9

#8 BAR FOURTEEN is out of a dam who did all her damage on turf, and that dam is a half to graded stake winning turfer More Than Love.  This gelding should be loose on the lead today and is a threat to go the distance.

RACE 5: 5-1-6

#5 OVERDRESSED is the one to beat even though she hardly inspires confidence.  She comes from just off the pace, generally, and should get a nice pace to run at in the late stages.

RACE 6: 2-3-7

#2 VIRGINIA JOY is Group I placed in her native Germany and now makes her North American debut for trainer Chad Brown.  The worktab she sports is solid and she gets Lasix for the first time.  Her best races overseas would make her a tough customer.

RACE 7: 5-12-4

While speed is not as much of a weapon on the Widener turf at Belmont as it is elsewhere, #5 THAT QUALITY is the one to catch given the early foot he’s shown up to this point.  If left to his own devices, he’ll be very tough to catch.

RACE 8: 4-2-5

#4 CAPTAIN BOMBASTIC has long been at his best at Belmont, and even competed well at Saratoga against open company last summer. He is an off the pace type who should get a decent setup in this affair.  His best efforts make him a deserving heavy favorite.

RACE 9: 2-1-10

#2 PUBLIC INFORMATION was pace compromised last time out at Gulfstream and now drops down a notch in class for trainer Chad Brown.  He has shown enough ability to be considered a major player here.

BELMONT STATS: 8-3-0-1 $12.20
