Nick Tammaro’s Belmont Analysis – Friday, May 21

BELMONT – 5/21/2021

RACE 1: 4-5-6

#4 COINAGE is by Tapit, whose 2YOs win on debut at a 14% clip and is the first foal out of BC Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold.  The purchase price here was rather paltry, all things considered, but this barn is capable of having one ready on debut.

RACE 2: 3-11-10-8

#3 POSITIVE POWER hails from a low percentage barn that scored a huge upset win here a week ago.  This daughter of Misremembered has repeatedly run races fast enough to win here, and should be wound tighter for this engagement making her second start off a layoff.

RACE 3: 4-2-6

#4 HONEY MONEY switches surfaces for Jonathan Thomas after showing speed and fading late on the turf last time out.  She has the best dirt form in this field and meets a particularly weak bunch, even for this level.

RACE 4: 6-2-10

Whether #6 BRAZILIONAIRE is capable of running the race he did last time out is a major question, given that he was terrific in defeat that afternoon.  He set a very fast pace, buried his other early rivals and nearly stayed the course.  The cutback in distance will help his cause and he gets an upgrade at pilot.

RACE 5: 5-4-6-3

#5 QUASAR switches surfaces and drops in class after showing some life last time out on the weeds.  She will benefit from getting a solid pace to run at late and there’ll be value here.  The biggest concern is this mare’s lack of willingness to win.

RACE 6: 8-2-1A

#8 FOREVER MO drops in class and has the versatility to stay close to the pace.  There’s precious little speed signed up, and that will work in this son of Uncle Mo’s favor.  He should offer value too.

RACE 7: 2-4-5

Last time should have been the maiden breaker for #5 VOICE OF SPRING, who was up for second after hitting her stride when she got outside.  She returns off a brief break here with an upgrade at pilot and is likely to offer value at the windows.

RACE 8: 6-7-3

#6 HURRICANE HILL is an off the pace type who figures to get a favorable setup given the amount of early zip signed up in here.  He has done some of his best work in the last year with Linda Rice and the pilot who was aboard for 3 wins last year is back in the saddle.

RACE 9: 5-6-10-8

#5 NOT PHAR NOW is the one to catch in a race that’s short on speed.  He goes first off a claim by George Weaver and exits a solid 3rd place finish on the dirt last time out.  If he gets clear of this field then he’ll be a major threat to go the distance.

BELMONT STATS: 149-42-25-20               $244.80
