A fantastic 11 race card today at The Great Race Place for their Big Cap feature. Part of the excitement of Big Cap Day outside of The Santa Anita Handicap is the China Doll Stakes for 3yo fillies on turf, the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile (which is loaded with talent this year), and the springboard to The Santa Anita Derby through today’s Grade 2 San Felipe, featuring some of the West Coast’s top Derby talent. Good racing coast to coast, so pace yourselves and best of luck building your bankroll.
Today’s Cases (from article link above)
- Race 1: A Case FOR Quattorelle (7/2 ML)
- Race 4: A Case AGAINST Ensley’s Dream (2/1 ML)
- Race 9: A Case FOR Social Paranoia (8/1 ML)
- Race 10: A Case AGAINST Maxfield (8/5 ML)
San Felipe Quick Thoughts: Life is Good’s talent has been on full display in the mornings and this one very well could be “special” but there are still things to prove. I don’t think it is any secret, Mike will send from the rail here and this one will set the pace today. Front end and inside has not been the place to be of late on the main track so will be interesting to see if Mike puts L.I.G. a few paths out to invite runners to the inside. I have been a fan of The Great One, and been looking forward to this match up as I really see this one getting better and better as they stretch out. Last win was super impressive but the field has come back weak (especially after Fenway’s dud). Conversely, the Dream Shake race keeps looking stronger (note, a win by Dream Shake here should be an auto upgrade to Mr. Impossible in the finale) and there should be pace to run at again for Rosario. Remember, Eurton not one to have them fully cranked on debut, so would not put it past this one to improve off the impressive debut. At 4-1 or better, I really see Dream Shake as a play today.
Cheers and good luck.
