Analysis & Selections By: Dean Keppler @Keppskorner

BEST BET: 3-Atomic Drop (Race 8)

Race #1: Selections: 7-6-8

Racing has been canceled for Saturday, Nov. 15, with over an inch of rain forecast for Southern California. There are three scheduled grass races on the Friday card (12:00 p.m. local post), so please stay abreast for potential late changes.

7-Too Much Info has more positional speed than he showed in his most recent try at Los Al under the lights on Nov. 2, when bumped at the break, and should utilize that early zip this afternoon to get a favorable tracking setup. The 5-time winning gelding has run well over this main track in the past and looks well-suited at this new bottom $5k claiming level. 6-Halo Uncle rallied for second at this level on Oct. 26 when facing similar and sports the field’s best last-out dirt Beyer (73). 8-Hot Chicks Only drops in for a career-low claiming tag this afternoon, and his most recent try at Santa Anita is a toss after breaking through the gate pre-race and racing wide thereafter before calling it an afternoon.

Race #2: Selections: 2-7-5

2-Cecilia Street finished a much-improved third when switched to grass in her most recent start and has come back to fire a pair of smart four-furlong drills over the synthetic footing since then for conditioner Leonard Powell. The juvenile daughter of Stanford could easily reverse that last decision behind 7-Druliner. That is if it stays on turf. The Craig Lewis trainee is a logical threat right back, exiting back-to-back second-place finishes at this level, routing on turf, and finished in front of a trio of today’s returning rivals on Oct. 18. 5-Humidity was off slowly when sent off at 34-1 when facing the top pair on debut, when finishing up an even fifth, but is eligible to move forward in career try number two. This barn is a sharp 6 for 30 (25%) with a $4.50 ROI with second-time turf starters the past four years.

Race #3: Selections: 4-5-8

Blinkers on 4-Fondest Dream (GB) should be able to clear this group early on and may prove challenging to reel in late with clear sailing on the front end. The 3-year-old filly was a sharp 2 ¼-length gate-to-wire winner at Los Al two-back using similar tactics. 5-Shop Till You Drop drops in for a career-low $10k claiming tag this afternoon for trainer Richard Baltas and was a good second (facing much better) in his lone try over this racetrack last November. The 4-year-old makes her third start of the form cycle today and may prove to have too much back class for these. 8-Ryan’s Girl was a solid runner-up at this level with a lifetime best Beyer (63) on Oct. 13 for the Papaprodromou barn and fired a “best of 45” five-furlong bullet since that effort.

Race #4: Selections: 2-5-8

The Mark Glatt-trained 2-Simple Song surrendered a three-length lead on debut to finish second with a lofty (88) Beyer and figures to be a handful today with a similar effort with the potential to move forward off that encouraging unveiling. 5-Latitude was super on debut for trainer John Sadler, finishing behind next-out repeat winner Modus Bestia and posting a (92) Beyer figure. The sophomore colt by Candy Ride has trained steadily since that promising debut, but will likely have to run down the top choice, who looks quicker out of the gate. 8-Cheever has hit the board in three of four career starts, running some solid numbers of his own, and it should not be long before this pricey Into Mischief gelding breaks through the maiden ranks.

Race #5: Selections: 6-3-2

6-Shin Jidai (GB) finished a strong third (beaten only a neck) off the five-month layoff against this level on Oct. 18 and should appreciate the stretch-out to a mile this afternoon for trainer Leonard Powell. The field’s best last-out best turf Beyer (75) adds to the appeal. The lightly raced 3-Starry Night ships in from Colonial Downs for trainer Jonathan Thomas, having won back-to-back turf routes, and has run turf figures that match up well here. This favorable jockey-trainer combo is 9-for-25 (36%) with grass runners over the past four years. The veteran 7-year-old mare 2-Madeira Wine returns to turf on the stretch-out and should take these as far as she can on the front end.

Race #6: Selections: 2-7-8

Blinkers off Kentucky shipper 2-Shane’s the Brains moves to the main track for career try number three for Team O’Neill and may prove to be the filly to catch this afternoon with jockey Antonio Fresu. The juvenile daughter of Nyquist (17% with dirt routers) has been well-backed in both career tries and gets a favorable draw today to potentially post the mild upset. 7-Banzai Betty drops back down into the maiden ranks after a well-beaten fourth in the classy G2 Oak Leaf in her second career try. This Upstart filly was a solid closing second on debut over this course Aug. 30 and should prove a tough customer in the all-important third career start. The Baffert-trained 8-Consequent is a daughter of Into Mischief who has trained well for today’s unveiling and lures barn’s go-to pilot for her unveiling. This barn also sends out another daughter of Into Mischief, firster 5-Luckiest, who has been training steadily along as well. Not an easy chore debuting at a mile, however, which both fillies do this afternoon.

Race #7: Selections: 6-1-2

6-Sasafran jumped in the air at the start, losing all realistic chance on Sept. 5, and now drops in for a first-time tag today for conditioner Gary Mandella. This Maximus Mischief filly has enough gate speed to grab the lead this afternoon if she minds her manners and potentially take these gate-to-wire. 1-Jenny’s Wine Girl broke a step slow on debut and never appeared comfortable when climbing over the main track at Santa Anita on Sept. 26 and now moves to grass on the stretch-out in start number two. The Baltas barn is 3 for 11 (27%) with a $3.36 ROI with dirt to turf second-time starters the past four years. Improvement likely. The Peter Miller-trained 2-Dialing Destiny drops back in for a tag today and switches to Rispoli off a series of troubled trips.

Race #8: Selections: 3-4-6

Class dropping 3-Atomic Drop is 10 for 41 lifetime and should prove tough to run down on the front end for conditioner Steve Knapp. The veteran 7-year-old gelding is a multiple winner over this main track and gets an aggressive gate pilot, Edwin Maldonado, this afternoon. 4-Cupid’s Crusader moves back to dirt off a troubled trip, seventh and last on Oct. 24, when breaking a step slow and running up on the heels of a rival. The 6-year-old gelding figures to be making up good ground late. 6-Brutto drops another notch while making his third start of the form cycle today and should be situated outside the likely pacesetter.
