BELMONT AT THE BIG A ANALYSIS– 9/22/2024

RACE 1: 1-4-3-5

#1 WITH THE ANGELS is the one to beat off a scintillating maiden win where she got control shortly after the start and improved her position the entire way.  She is the one to catch once again today from the inside and should be well clear in the opening stages.  The sky’s the limit for this daughter of Omaha Beach, who should be very hard to wear down late.

RACE 2: 5-3-6-1

#5 I’M BUZZY is interesting third start off a claim by trainer Gustavo Rodriguez.  She ran better than it looks last time given the wide trip and the razor sharp winner of that heat.  The pace should be contested enough to set up her late bid, and this veteran daughter of Long Island Sound has long been at her best over this oval.

RACE 3: 1-4-7-5

#1 SACROSANCT is the one to beat off a handy maiden win earned against a solid field.  The 3 also rans from that affair to return have all improved their Beyer Speed Figures in their next start and this colt has continued to train well since the win.  The rail is the only concern, but there should be speed outside of him to create separation early.

RACE 4: 3-8-10-7

#3 WAR CHROME is coming back off a lengthy break after finishing a good third last time out against similar foes.  He looks to be training well for the return and needs to simply duplicate his last effort to win this race.  If he can get close to the pace his chances will improve given the expected race flow here.

RACE 5: 1-6-5-7

#1 WISH LIST had little go right last time out when third at 9/2 against similar foes.  She broke poorly in that affair then made a wide move coming off the far turn before coming up a length short.  The rail was the place to be last time out and she made a big, wide move so there’s reason to believe she’ll improve today.  Some pace help will definitely be needed.

RACE 6: 4-11-3-5

The likelihood that #4 SKY MASTERSON gets the lead here makes him interesting.  His last race was his best to date and he should be able to get to the front this afternoon.  The rail on the inner turf played very well on Saturday afternoon and a similar track profile would greatly aid the cause of this son of The Factor.

RACE 7: 7-8-3-2

#7 DAYTONA GOLD is a first timer by Goldencents, a 11% debut sire and the dam here was a debut winner at two.  He has two winning siblings and a strong worktab, so there’s plenty to like about this colt.  Trainer Kenny McPeek is having the best year of his career and can have one ready at first asking.

RACE 8: 5-4-7-6

The pace edge held by #5 EVER SO SWEET is significant as she drops in class for trainer Brad Cox.  The only other time she raced with Lasix she walloped a field of N1X runners over this oval in May and a similar setup is in the offing today.  The drop in class is too significant to overlook and she should be well clear early in this affair.

RACE 9: 10-1-2-12

There should be nothing keeping #10 RED BURGUNDY from an unfettered trip to the lead.  She set a fast pace last time out in the Suzie O’Cain before weakening late and now gets Lasix and a new pilot.  Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. had a huge day Saturday by putting speed horses on the lead, and this gal should find herself in the same place today.
