GP RACE 8
SELECTIONS: 5-3-6-4
#5 WILLOW CASE has an advantage on the Thorograph sheets over this bunch based on her wide trip win last time out in the Sharp Susan. She stretches out to a mile here, but that should be no issue based on running style and pedigree. Her dam is out of Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer and she is by Dubai World Cup runner-up Neolithic.
GP RACE 9
SELECTIONS: 8-5-7-2
This race is off the turf and will be run on the Tapeta surface. #8 KAHOLO is a second timer who showed big speed on debut before fading and now adds blinkers with Rajiv Maragh back aboard. He should be involved early at the very least and meets a hodgepodge of unsuccessful maidens trying to find their level.
SA RACE 3
SELECTIONS: 8-3-5-1
#8 ESSENTIAL LADY is interesting on debut based on her gaudy pedigree. She is by Essential Quality, who was the 2021 Belmont and Travers Stakes winner and is out of the brilliant turf sprinter Lady Shipman. That makes her a half to Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Golden Pal, and while the reports on her workouts have been dull, those drills were all on dirt.
SA RACE 5
SELECTIONS: 6-1-7-4
If pace makes the race then #6 DOUBLE BAY should be very tough to beat. She showed big speed two back going today’s distance before being run down late. The pace she set in that affair was robust, and it understandably took a toll late. The other option in this C2C P5 is #1 CHURCH LADY, who moves in for a tag for the first time since coming stateside for Phil D’Amato.
SA RACE 7
SELECTIONS: 9-2-6-4
#9 LADY GREGORY is a stone cold single to finish this thing off as she sneaks in off the AE list with a program scratch. She is quick off the mark and that’ll help her stay close in the opening stages under Hector Berrios. The price here will be paltry, but she is a deserving favorite on paper.
