RACE 1: 2-3-4-5
There’s no doubt that #2 BOB MO was cut out to be a good horse. He was bet down to 3-1 on debut in a bulky field at Churchill Downs before showing speed and fading late. He now makes his second outing for trainer Jorge Delgado off a poor run last time out at Monmouth. The fact Delgado is willing to bring him to NY is telling, as he also sports massive numbers with horses stretching out on dirt (30%, $2.64 ROI). The lead should be his for the taking this afternoon.
RACE 2: 2-6-7-8
#2 ATERRADORA is the one to beat on turf as she drops in class from a couple of graded stakes tries in Louisville. She gets Lasix back on today and should be able to sit back and make one run as one of the choices. The inside draw is advantageous on this course with the rail down, as Jose Ortiz should be able to save ground throughout. On dirt, #6 BRILAND is the one to beat by virtue of her strong debut win here and the solid race she ran second out on the main track at the Big A.
RACE 3: 7-1-6-4
#7 ARTICLE goes second off a claim by Linda Rice after showing little last time out at Churchill Downs. He was claimed for 40k and is now in for 20k two starts later, but Rice’s model is to get what you can and move on at once. That’s clearly what they’re doing with this son of Constitution, who easily has the right credentials necessary to win this race.
RACE 4: 9-3-8-2
Anticipating a surface switch for this affair and #9 RATU JAWA becomes a major player on the main track. She was a competitive 5th in a strong field here 8 days ago, stalking the pace and finishing with interest against similar MSW runners. This field lacks any strong form on the part of the original entries who might stay in off the turf, and the lone MTO is hardly eye-catching. The price will be right on this Doug Seyler trainee and she needn’t be a mile out in the opening stages with Ricardo Santana, Jr. taking over in the irons.
RACE 5: 7-1-3-8
#7 AMUNDSON is a winner of two straight and bids for a third straight score second off the claim by Rob Atras. He is drawn ideally for this affair as he can stalk and pounce from the outset. If things get too heated early, he is capable of taking back a bit more and is nearly back in the kind of form that made him a NY bred stakes caliber runner in years past. That might be where he’s headed after all if this race goes anything like his most recent two performances.
RACE 6: 3-5-8-1
#3 BROOKLYN STYLES is a firster by Munnings, a 14% overall sire with 2YO first time starters. The dam here was a 4x winner, all on the lawn, but her 3 foals to race have all done so on the main track. The worktab looks spritely, and this colt will end up being a major therat on either turf or dirt.
RACE 7: 16-14-9-8
This race is nearly impossible from a public handicapping perspective given how much will change after scratches. If the race gets transferred to the main track, #16 REFUAH becomes the clear horse to beat. He goes 2nd off a claim by Joe Sharp and lands back in against NY breds for the first time in roughly 7 months. He is a proven loser who often has a hard time sealing the deal, but he should be in range throughout today from this outside draw.
RACE 8: 9-3-7-6
#9 GONE AND FORGOTTEN goes 3rd off a claim by trainer Linda Rice and should be on the move late this afternoon. This gal broke towards the inside last time out and didn’t really get out of third gear despite making up late ground. It will be incumbent upon jockey Jose Lezcano to get her more involved in the opening stages this afternoon. The price should be fair here, but it’s hardly advisable to exclude the 3 and 7 from multi-race plays.
RACE 9: 2-5-6-4
#2 GOVERNOR SAM is the one to catch as he seeks his fourth stakes win and first score of 2025. He was bested on the square two back at Churchill Downs after setting solid fractions, then faltered most recently on the main track. This is his best trip and he should be able to control things from the opening jump. Expect Irad Ortiz, Jr. to take advantage of the pace scenario and open up down the backstretch.
RACE 10: 2-7-16-3
#2 VINO SAMARA is the one to beat on either surface today as she goes third off a layoff after chasing the pace and tiring last time out. The dirt is likely better for her this afternoon and she should be a square price in this bulky field.
