On the Horizon – Gulfstream Park – Friday(December 22, 2023) – John Pinder

Late Pick 5

Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.

Race 5 SELECTIONS:   1 – 4 – 7

#1 Flying Black makes her first attempt for the new barn after being claimed last time out; gets the services of Irad Ortiz in the saddle.  #4 Sals Dream Girl has good versatile speed and his dropping in class as she makes the trip down from the New York circuit; trainer Danny Gargan is statistically solid with turf shippers.  #7 Empress Ellie is dropping in class and attempting the turf again after running on mainly the All-Weather surface; if she can get the lead or press the pace, she will be dangerous.

Race 6 SELECTIONS:   2 – 5

#2 Zisisit was close up to a hot pace last time out and faded badly.  Today she drops in class and looks to regain her competitive spirit; Luis Saez picks up the riding responsibility.  #5 Le Boiana is switching things up.  She is dropping in class, going back to the All-Weather surface and attempting a route for the first time; running third off the layoff and getting Irad Ortiz in the saddle are two factors that should help her with all the newness.

Race 7 SELECTIONS:   3 – 6                                          The key to playing today’s sequence with our selections is attempting to beat the favorite #4 Dynamic One – he outclasses the field by a mile but is coming off a long layoff and does his best running late going longer.

#3 Positive Review has good tactical speed and fits at this level and distance.  Running third off the layoff he is switching back to the distance that fits his talent the best.  #6 Slim Slow Slider is stepping up in class but has the pace profile and speed figures that says he can be competitive at this level.

Race 8 SELECTIONS:   9 – 1- 5

#9 Sonic Speed drops in class and is also cutting back in distance after a narrow defeat last time out versus tougher; gets the services of Johnny Velazquez in the irons.  #1 Stride is a homebred that has been carefully campaigned and today returns to the turf surface for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.; Edgard Zayas retains the mount.  #5 Swashbuckle is a 5-year-old gelded son of Quality Road with homerun potential.

Race 9 SELECTIONS:   6 – 9

#6 Nightsaber gets it.  She gets a new trainer in Julie Stormfelt and the meets top jockey Irad Ortiz.  She is also making a big drop in class which should allow her to use the early pace advantage to get to the winner’s circle.  #9 Cardio Princess stretches out from sprint distances to the mile and possesses good early speed.

Today’s ticket .50 base (pre scratches) :   1,4,7 / 2,5  / 3,6  / 1,5,9 / 6,9       cost: $36
