Late Pick 5
Race selections provided are in the mindset of playing the Pick 5 sequence as a whole; runners are placed in the order of most likely winner, in my humble opinion.
Race 5 SELECTIONS: 11 – 7 – 1
#11 Dontmesswithtess has a versatile running style, is dropping in class and gets the meets leading rider Irad Ortiz Jr. #7 Diva Ready will come with a strong late kick but she will need to work out a trip for it to be effective, she gets Johnny V. in the irons; sounds like a good combination to me. #1 Beach Ready is a gate to wire threat, running second off the layoff for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.
Race 6 SELECTIONS: 4 – 7 – 2 – 5
#4 Grimes has good early speed and is returning to the surface that gives him a better chance to sustain it; dropping in class and gets Luiz Saez in the irons. #7 Betta Go Go Go will also be making a surface switch for trainer Michael Yates; he is a lightly raced gelding with ample early pace. #2 Cheyenne Brave is a first-time starter whose Dam has two winners from three starters. #5 Battalion Bound is also a first-time starter running for the St. Elias Stable; Hall of fame Jockey Johnny Velazquez gets the mount.
Race 7 SELECTIONS: 6 – 5 – 2
#6 The Distractor ran against tougher on the All-Weather last time out after breaking poorly; today he returns to the surface and class level where he has had great success. #5 Sir Ollie was very competitive in his last outing at this level. Today he will be going an additional furlong, but this son of Quality Road doesn’t show any quit in his running lines. #2 American Pure has been away from the races for more than 7 months but has consistency on the workout tab and a bullet work in his most recent; dropping in class today.
Race 8 SELECTIONS: 5 We will attempt to leverage this co-morning line favorite as a single.
#5 Novo Sol attended a hot pace last time out and he couldn’t keep up, that was after a rest and a ship up from Woodbine; today is dropping in class for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. This 6-year-old youngster also has good early speed and has had lots of success here at GP for this surface and distance.
Race 9 SELECTIONS: 7 – 1 – 2 – 4 Improving 2 year-olds
#7 Spirit’s Mischief will be a strong win candidate on the Tote Board; solid connections and impressive speed figures in his two prior starts, this Into Mischief colt will be an include but will not be our only play here. #1 Okiro has never missed the board in his four prior races and should be poised for another good run today; gets blinkers for the first time. #2 Runnin’ Rocket has good early speed and was able to break his maiden last time out on the All-Weather surface; he has never raced on the grass, but his pedigree suggests that he might do well. Trainer Brian Lynch is good with runners making their first start on the turf.
Today’s ticket .50 base (pre scratches) : 1,7,11 / 2,4,5,7 / 2,5,6 / 5 / 1,2,7 cost: $54
