Parx Cotillion and PA Derby Preview

The Cotillion Race 12- 4-3-2

  • Okay, so we all know that it will be a swamp at Parx today. I really hope they run the card today. That being said, let us get into this race. The Cotillion is one of the most underrated races of the year for the 3yo Filly division. This year the race attracted arguably the best 3yo filly in the division right now in #3 Pretty Mischievous. I however, have her as my 2nd choice. The top choice for me in this race is the #4 Hoosier Philly. Hoosier Philly is going to be bet based off the name but I think this one is sitting on a big effort. Tom Amoss made a huge jockey switch to John Velazquez who I think will give this horse the trip she needs. I have always been a fan of this one and I think today may be the day she finally puts together a good race with no hiccups. She has run good in the wet before and today should be no different. #3 Pretty Mischievous is obviously the one to beat and I will be using her on tickets and rooting for her. She is a class above most of this field and she will be forwardly placed, tough to lose when you put it that way. #2 Ceiling Crusher’s connections are treating this like the Breeders Cup. They didn’t ship coast to coast for nothing and this one will be on the front end and maybe even the quickest out the gate knowing Edwin Maldanado is on this one. You can make a case for others in here but I think it is between these 3.

The PA Derby Race 13- 4-3-5

Look I know the numbers for both races are very similar but no I did not copy and paste. I really like #4 Magic Tap here in the PA derby. Sure #3 Saudi Crown is coming into this race off powerful efforts against tougher. I think though that the distance is a tad too long for him and if he duels with any other horse he may get tired late. Magic Tap is going to be sitting the trip but needs them to not kick on in front of him. Magic Tap’s last race was a lot tougher to do than the projected trip today. I think he is sitting on a big one today. #5 Scotland is going to be tough too and you can cross out that last effort. This one wants to sit off not be on the lead by himself. I think the slop isn’t an issue and I think this one is live. Now we get into the most likely post time favorite and my 2nd choice #3 Saudi Crown. Saudi Crown could take this one gate to wire and I wouldn’t be shocked at all. Geroux has run good in this race before and he knows the track well. I think this one is fast but can he maintain that speed for the long distance over easily the deepest track he has run on. That question alone is why he is not on top for me.
