There is a $27,074 carryover for Saturday Kings Plate Day at Woodbine that is a Mandatory Payout in the last race. A full field goes 7.5 Furlongs on the Inner Turf at the NW1x Allowance Condition with a $32,000 Optional Claiming Tag. Here are some ideas on how to attack the 20c wager.
A Horses
(3) Journeyman – a nine year old class horse with 12 lifetime wins coming off a sharp performance in a condition higher than this one. He has a 32k tag here but that is common for him to go in these races. Should attend the pace again and try to grind them all late.
(1) Monterey Bay – three year old will likely be favored coming off facile win for Ward in a maiden here July 6th. The two turns here is a change for him but he has been relaxed and push button so far and draws inside.
(10) Gift Edge – gets a drop and a rider switch here after being involved in a quick paced race on 7/20. Two back line was a sharp off the pace win where he was claimed for 40k. Could find the right trip at a price with a new pilot.
Underneath types
(11) Indian Peak – keeps Civaci here for Drexler after flattening out quickly in latest. He’s third back off a 6 month layoff and has produced BSFs in the 80s over the turf. Always takes $ at the windows but post and latest effort could lead him to drift up vs these.
(7) Tiz Romantic – a pure underneath type as he has 20 shares in his 43 lifetime starts. Raced well vs tougher 7/31 while getting a sharp rail ride. He’s never won over the Woodbine turf but has three finishes in the top three. Could find another decent trip with his tactical speed, and the distance suits him very well.
(6) El Alacran – has two straight wins at the 2 and 3 life 25k claiming levels sprinting. This is a step up for the 4 year old but he’s obviously improved this year showing ability on and off the pace in his last two. At 20/1 ML he should be used on tickets especially in the 3-5 spots.
(2) Penner Ash – shortens back to 7.5 furlongs after a dud at 9 on 7/19. Nice win going a mile here over the inner on 6/20 vs 3L foes. He’s a hit and miss type but will be a long shot that can fill in this high 5 if feeling in the mood.
Please Note: If the 13 Fly the W should draw into the race he would need to be considered for all spots.
Ticket Structure
With the 20c minimum you can spread cover a lot of combinations but for this race that may not be necessary.
The 1 and 3 look very solid on the win end here with the 10 a long shot alternative that could jump up for top connections.
I’d be interested in using the 3 A horses in All spots and leaning heavy on the 1 and 3 for press purposes.
The 6 7 or 11 could crack the exacta depending on trip and that could add value to this ticket. I’d be looking
to play them 2nd for a 20c multiple looking to split my top choices in case grabs the place spot.
The 2 and 4 can fill out this ticket with their speed to gain position and finish late. I’d be more interested in them in the 3-5 spots on the play.
So a quick example of possible plays here:
1310/1310/13671011/1234671011/1234671011 $96
1310/6711/1310/1234671011/1234671011 $72
13/13/671011/24671011/24671011 $32
6711/13/13/24671011/24671011 $24
10/13/13/246711/246711 $8
13/13/10/246711/246711 $8
Can press the top combos for more depending on budget here or what you favor more. Enjoy the King’s Plate and go out and try to catch the last race Super High Five.
